Before TTC I was on Dianette for several years. However when I went back on the pill my doc said that I wasn't supposed to be on it long term as it can cause osteoporosis or something (not sure why she'd sanctioned it for so long previously!) I was a bit annoyed as it was the only pill that had agreed well with me. Originally Microgynon caused acne (hence being put on Dianette) and terrible mood swings. What did she try me on again - Microgynon!! Again it made me feel awful. She changed me to Yasmin which I think might be quite a new pill and it's been fine.

I considered other contraception but wanted something that I can come off easily as we would like to TTC again in a year or so.

I have the contraception implant in - I had it in for 4 years (meant to be 3 but I never had time to get it out!) and was fine, no period for 4 years then got my cycle back 3months after getting it out. Everything seems fine this time too so fingers crossed.

I had a mirena for 9 years before TTC which was amazing. Only takes a few minutes to put in and painless. Lasts for 5 years and for me meant no periods for 5 years. It does have a hormone in bu this is locally acting (apparently) and didn't affect my mood (other than stopping my PMT!) but it does take a couple of weeks to completely settle down.

I have the non-hormonal (copper) IUD.
Had been using pull out and pray for a month or so as I'm breastfeeding so hopefully won't ovulate yet but this was too stressful so went for the IUD.

It's my second. Had the first for 5 years prior to TTC little man and it was fab. No need to remember to take a pill and as it doesn't contain hormones it doesn't have any silly side effects.

I'd recommend it for sure. PM me lauraloo if you have any questions I can help with x

I only trust barrier method so condoms here! Hormonal contraception turns me into a bitchy eating machine
I'm so afraid of getting pregnant I'd rather avoid it all together but know that suggestion would go down like a lead balloon!

I'm on cerazette and I love it, but after our next LO I'm definitely going for the mirena IUD

I was on it for years before having LO and loved it...no periods, no weight gain and I was pretty stable mood-wise (well, as stable as usual ). Also fell pregnant 2 months after coming off it so I was pretty pleased all round.

I'd go for the mirena next time as it's the same hormone as cerazette but in much lower levels and I like the idea of not having to think about contraception or tablets for 5 years at a time
