Vitamin drops???

Does anyone give them? My HV advised us to at 6 months but I've heard conflicting arguments for and against.

Lily is breast fed and we BLW, she eats veg and meat.

When ryland was 4 days old at his first appointment, they prescribed him Enfamil Di-vi Sol vitamin D drops to take until he's 6 months old.

My doctor told me to give them to her, but I hated how the enfamil ones contained tons of artificial colors and flavors and crap so I found some online that were only vitamin d drops, without anything else and I use them.

That said, I hardly give/gave them to her as long as I made sure to go outside at least once a day (indirect sunlight of course, no baby tans, lol). I live in Texas so we get lots of sunlight, year round, but maybe if you live somewhere where you don't get as much sun it is needed more?

I give them to Sophie as it's still not very sunny and nice outside. My stepmum said, as long as there's an 'r' in the month it's a good idea to supplement !

She is breastfed, but some days eats lots and some days barely eats solids, so I guess it can't harm her.

I'm stopping when the weather will be better and she starts eating more consistently I think.

It's a good idea to always give vitamin D especially in the winter (or you can take a supplement yourself). If she eats well then you will probably be OK with just that. Up to you, I started to give vitamin syrup at 1 year when his milk consumption went down and he started to eat mainly solids.

I was advised to give vit D from birth but I never have. I generally don't like to give supplements unless it's completely necessary. I take LO outside every day so I think she gets plenty from the sun. We live in Italy though so its really sunny even in winter. I might have done things differently if we'd been in the UK.

Silas takes these as well. FF babies don't need to take them.

Nope. As long as they have a balanced diet, there is no need. Until six months, breastmilk or formula provides all the vit d they need.

Ally has vitamin d, it's miserable outside and she's past six months (I gave them a bit earlier). Nothing else, though.
