If I were 43 weeks pregnant, I wouldn't have to worry about taking the baby out.

I like pay at the pump (in an ideal world) but if this is not an option I tend to plan it when someone else is with me. If all else fails then yes, would run over there and pay after making sure I'd locked LO in the car.

I think that if someone sees a child in a car on a hot day and after five-ten minutes no one comes, that is grounds for calling the police.

These threads ALWAYS go the same way. It never fails.

Thread doesn't seem like a bad one at all, everyone being grown ups lol. What OP said about seeing someone crash into a car whilst at pump and the car going into the pump, surely that would happen with or without you in the car? If somethings gonna happen its gonna happen and whilst taking your child with you would prevent this, it wouldnt prevent it happening another time when ur in the car. what im trying to say is if you start looking too far into it you will end up being petrified to leave the house without ur baby wrapped tightly in cotton wool! I'd leave them whilst i paid as long as i could see the car! I mean, even in ur own house you could run upstairs for something with the monitor on and the ceiling could collapse! could you have prevented that if you were there next to them?

I wouldn't call concerned people seeing a baby in a car "busybodies". If you see a baby in an unsupervised car, you never know if it's the mom that ran to pay for gas, or the parent that forgot their child was in the car. Calling CPS can save that child's life.

Now, if your car was in visual range, and someone was standing next to your car on the phone, you would easily be able to say "Hey, I'm mom, just paying for petrol here!" and that should stop any phone calls.
You're right, my comment was pretty uncalled for

I think too if I saw a baby in a car and couldn't see the mom/dad/whoever nearby, I would stick by the car and make sure someone was coming back. I think I really was aiming my comment at some of the people who would gasp in shock to actually watch me walk 10-15 feet to put my shopping cart away.

Either way, it seems AF is making me a bit nasty right now, sorry again!

It's ok, I probably took it a bit personally cause I'm the busybody calling 911! LOL

I give a parent 5 min to get to the car with me watching it, after that, I call 911. I'd rather risk a pissed off parent than a dead baby.

But I leave LO in the car to put the cart away. And I'd leave her in the car in the OP's scenario. There has to be some level of reason...

Sorry to start the controversy. Of course if I see a child in a car for a prolonged period of time, I'd be concerned as well! And call the authorities. All I meant was that some folks might just call without doing a quick look around to see if the parent/caretaker was nearby. But again, I'd think most concerned people (or as I mistakenly said "worrywarts") would wait by a car for at least a few minutes before ringing for help. And by that point, we'd all be back at our cars. Back to the original question- I don't see an issue in leaving the baby in a locked car for a minute if she is within sight and within a few yards.

I don't have a problem with people who do it. Each individual knows what is best for their situation. With that said, if I get out and am walking away from the vehicle, the babies come with me. I am, however, at an advantage in that my van has two gas tanks so it's a bit easier to plan fill ups.
