My daughter is still rear-facing at 2 years+3 months and she will remain so for as long as possible.

She was in her infant carrier til 18 months too!

Rear-face!!! I wouldnt care if LO is uncomfortable - they would just have to get used to it!

Another extended rear facer here! Both mine are rear facing and hopefully will be until at least 3. I get stick about it from friends and even my DH who think it is weird and that they would be happier forward facing, but what they don't know can't hurt them and it is much safer. I have mirrors so that they can see my face and they can see everything out the back and side windows so they don't get bored.

I was worried too, my LO is 19lbs at 14 weeks. There was no way in hell I was going to forward face this early so I drove 4 hours to buy him an extended rear facing seat.

My little chunk is still in his infant carrier and he is about 21lbs. He does look a little cramped but his head isn't near the top and he is a tall baby!!

We are hoping to stay rearward for as long as we can.

Ok you've had lots of advice to keep rear facing but little about making him happier.

We went through the hating the car seat too. Get a mirror from halfords so you can see LO they also like to be able to see themselves. Get some toys that attach to the infant seat handle. Keep dummy attached to the seat easy for you to grab it an plug it back in.

Has your car seat got a newborn incert cusion (sp) take it out. I assume you've done the obious and made sure he's not too hot / cold? Have you got blinds on the windows to keep the sun out of his eyes? Does he have wind my LO found it impossible to get it up in the car seat.

For a long time I tried to confine all journeys to nap time to make it less stressful on us both.

Hope some of that helps. Oh and for the record my Smurf is almost 14 mths and still in his pebble infant carrier.

Most ERF seats go to at LEAST 40lbs.
