Is this normal or a not for a 5 month old (sleep)

Hi there

This is Lily's sleep pattern... just trying to see if this fits in the 'norm' or if she wakes more than others.. I know there is no real norm but just to get an idea if I need to address it..

Wake - 7am
Nap - 8.30-9.45am
Nap - 10.45 - 11.30
Nap - 12.15 - 13.00
Nap - 3-4
Goes to sleep for night at 6 - 6.30
Wakes up 6.45pm or 7pm again..
Goes back down about 8pm
Wakes 10pm
Wakes 12am
Wakes 2am
Wakes 4am
Wakes 6am
Wakes 7am for day

she also feeds every 2 hours in day - exclusively Breasfted

Thanks all - been like this 2 months now... she feeds everytime she wakes, does not want dummy upon waking only to go to sleep

xx

That's almost exactly like my LO has been from birth, except that he's usually awake for 1.5-2hrs at a time in the day, and will only nap for 30mins each time. He's EBF too.

He was feeding every 2 hours at night and probably more in the day until i started giving him a bottle of EBM in the evening which made his go for a bit longer for the first part of the night.

Unfortunately that only lasted 2 weeks and now he's reverted back to waking very frequently, often hourly, all night. Sleep regression maybe, or maybe that's just how he rolls

Sorry I've no clue if it's normal (as, like you said, it can vary per baby)... my LO wakes around 6-7am, then takes naps every 2hrs or so throughout the day (usually 1/2 hr, sometimes longer)- then goes down to bed at 7-7:30pm. She's been like this for a while now... slowly working her bedtime up more. It used to be more like 8:30-9, then earlier and earlier... but still wakes up around the same time most days.

Maybe someone else can give a better answer

Also not sure if it's normal. My LO had absolutely no schedule, but he does give us five/six hour chunks where he sleeps. So, basically your LO is up every two hours? Are you awake with LO every single time, or do you get a longer stretch?

I think they're all so different! Mine is up around 8am, has 3-4 naps a day totalling about 4-5 hours and will normally sleep through the night from about 11pm. She's got a bedside cot so is in the same room, right next to me. The last few weeks she's woken up for a feed in the night about 3 times in total.

My bub isn't 5 months yet but I found this online the other day and found it interesting -

By the time babies are 3 months old some (but not all) begin to start settling (sleeping through a night-time feed for a stretch of up to 5 hours). By the time they are 5 months old half of them may have started to sleep for an eight-hour stretch on some nights. Generally, though, babies do not sleep all night-every night until they are close to a year old. One study investigating infant sleep duration found that 27% of babies had not regularly slept from 10pm to 6am by the age of 1 year. 13% of babies had not regularly slept through for 5 hours or more by the age of 1 year.

Great thanks so much! I think I will just go with the flow and hope she gets better. She seems quite unsettled first part of night 7pm - 11pm and then woke every 3 hours after that and up at 7.. I heard if you can aim for 3 hours between feeds at night at this age thats good... they will all sleep eventually .. thanks ladies

I won't tell you my baby's sleep schedule it won't help lol. Does your baby fall asleep by them-self? My LO used to take 30 min naps up until 2 weeks ago, she found her thumb. It sounds like maybe your LO might be waking so often because She needs you to Put her back to sleep? Either by breastfeeding or walking etc. Is she sleeping in your room?
