Every time I look back at the video, I would say that there was a moment that I lost the urge to push for about 10 seconds so I didn't push. The midwife said something like "keep pushing" and I said "no". Those 10 seconds probably did quite a bit for me and I really feel like pushing when I didn't feel the urge to could have torn me as the burning in my perinium was so much at that point. It felt like much longer but I can see in my video that the head was born about 10-15 seconds after that.
I completely agree with you. My midwife kept telling me to push too and in the end I got confused and pushed when I wasn't having a contraction. I bet that's how I tore.
That's why I ignored my midwives, although they did have the sense to just let me get on with it instead of telling me when to push or not! Think I was giving off an aura of 'leave me the hell alone!'

I had both my children on the bed, with my son I needed an episiotomy, and afterwards it split open and got infected When it eventually healed it left a HUGE scar which tore when I was giving birth to my daughter. x x x

Gave birth on all fours over the bed, slight tear, no stitches, didnt hurt afterwards, was just uncomfortable for a while. Midwife told to pee in bath after wash, i was so scared to i was in the bath for half hr, i dont know what i was scared of as it didnt hurt. I told midwife when I was pushin, she didnt tell me when to, she was still filling in my notes haha.

I gave birth on the bed and ended up with a second degree tear, but Isabel did come out pretending to be superman (hand next to face).

Interesting to see the correlation though!

I gave birth on my back on the bed and had a 2nd degree tear, but that was due to me listening to idiot MWs telling me to push when I wasnt even contracting

I was in water for most of my labour but got out and squatted/all 4s to push and no tears with 9 pound 7 baby. I think the position I was in really helped, lying down is the worst way to push.

oh tell me about it, my midwife wanted me on this monitor so I couldn't be in the position I wanted, I pushed out a 10lb 3 babe, laying on my back. No stitches though
