MIL - Make baby stay awake all day and she'll sleep through the night

Mother - LO's training and testing you with what she can get away with. (LO was chaning her routine, dropping a bottle in 24hours, apparently this is not normal )

MIL - dont let her stand it will make her bow legged?

MIL - dont give baby too many toys, you'll spoil her!

I could go on

'don't feed them at night between 9pm and 7am from birth or they'll get used to it, they don't need to be fed at night'

'breast feeding is only beneficial for the first 4 days because that's what my wife did'

'don't change the nappies too often or she'll do it to wind you up'

Same guy everytime, these were also said to my OH as he knows I'd tell him what a load of rubbish he's saying

Just yesterday I was chatting to another mum at work about our LOs teething and another colleague joined in saying we should rub brandy on their gums

We both just smiled and nodded politely

I watched an online conversation once from a group of girls on a parenting page who make their children babies drink their milk by adding.................nesquick milk shake. Seems to be something a lot of woman done.

My FIL told me to put hot chocolate in cows milk to get Thomas to gain more weight. He gains weight perfectly fine.

My father: Put a rusk in bottle to make him STTN, I did it with my kids and you're all fine!

Friend: You'll regret giving LO a dummy when you struggle to take it away

My Father: Wean at 16 weeks because we did it, it's all a load of rubbish nowadays, they don't know anything [referring to MW's/HV's etc]

Sister: Stop being so stupid and ott about what you feed LO [at 6 and a half months], a crisp won't hurt!

Loads of people: He should be STTN by now, you want to stop feeding him at night by using water or 'filling him up'

"just feed him 10 minutes on each side. whip it out, put it away, and flip him to the other side. fast and easy. that's what i did."

And when he was a few weeks old and really didn't like sucking on a binky she told us we need to buy every binky in the store and just keep trying them until we find one that he likes. She then proceeded to show up with a sack full of at least 10 different kinds of binkies. I just put them in a box and haven't used them yet....

Wow, people say some incredible things! The only really stupid thing I was told, and it was during pregnancy by my gyno, he told me I should consider getting rid of my cats because they were jeopardising my health.

I heard this too but we were so tired and naive we BELIEVED IT, my poor baby was up for 12-14 hours straight as a newborn I can laugh now but yikes it was hell. He sleeps more in the day as a toddler than as a newborn

This just proves how resilent children can be. Im sure many people raised their kids following their own stupid advice and they turned out OK.

Im lucky I havent heard much bad advice. My mom did tell me she thought it was "gross" to BF baby after they can ask for it or pull your shirt up in public (mom isnt keen on NIP either). I plan on ignoring this advice.
