really hungry baby!!

hi ladies just wanted some advice please . My Lo is 4 weeks on Sunday and is becoming more and more ravenous. He was having 3 oz every 3 hrs last week and then wanted more. I increased to the occasional 4 oz and then he was projectile vomiting on 3 seperate ocassions over 3 days. The health visitor said to increase slowly. We have done this but he is so hungry now having 3 oz every 2-3 hrs. He is still hungry after each feed sucking his hands and shaking his head. He gets very distressed when he wants feeding. We were then advised to add an extra 1 oz feed between regular feeds but this has made no difference but he is not sick anymore. He was a small baby and weighed 6 lb 8 oz but put on a 1 lb in 3 weeks. My question is what are other people feeding there babies and i am worried he is having too much?? very confused as been given lots of conflicting advice

If he's vomiting 4 but still hungry after 3, I would try and give him more feeds frequently, even down to 1-2ish hours if needed. Growth spurts are very common at this age and their feeding may be erratic.

I could have written your post!! My boy was 4 weeks on Monday and is so hungry these last few days it is unreal. Last week on advice of hv I upped feeds to 5oz every 3.5-4 hours but since yesterday he's even drained a couple of 6oz lol!!

He was 7lb11 born and last Tuesday he was already 10lb!! His growth chart looks crazy already.

My theory is that if he is hungry he must eat but it does seem excessive. I look forward to responses from others as to whether what I'm doing is right xx

I would agree trying to feed more often, but less. I know it's tough though... as when baby is hungry, they are hungry and pretty much nothing else is going to satisfy!!! Maybe it's just my LO? LOL- but when she's really hungry she will for SURE let us know till she is done.

As well, my LO was very spitty (still is often) so when she was a newborn we had to give her lots of breaks during her feeds (stop every 2oz or so) and try to burp her- which, didn't make her happy- BUT it helps her tummy settle more and helps a bit with spitting up. Not always though.

Best of luck hun!

Just feed more often. If 4oz is too much stick with the 3oz more regularly. It will start to even itself out. Occasionally try a 4oz bottle though cause one day baby will just take it without the vomiting. You could also try more breaks in drinking the bigger bottle.
