Feeding before bed

The norm I've read on this forum is that most people feed last thing at night and LO goes off to sleep. I can't seem to get this right! LO feeds on demand and so sometimes he'll feed at 6 and go to sleep for the night at 8 and will probably wake around 1 for a feed, other times he'll feed at 8.30 and go straight to sleep and wake at 4ish.

Does this matter if he's awake after his last feed?

As long as LO is content and if you are happy with their feeding/sleeping then its all great!

What is it that you are worried about??

I'm not really sure! I think I get agitated that at night he should eat and then sleep straight away as otherwise he's getting closer to his next feed and is still awake. But thinking about it, it won't really make that much difference would it? I don't actually know what I'm asking!! Mum head......

Maybe before he falls asleep at 8 try feeding him again. Do you bf? If he doesn't want to eat he won't. I think that is what you are asking, or maybe I'm having a mommy brain!

I think what you're curious about is if he feeds right before he sleeps, will he sleep longer?

For the most part our LO feeds right before he sleeps for the night.. the odd night he gets super full but won't fall asleep right away but that's rare.. it actually happened last night, he clustered from like 7-9:15 which he hasn't done in a while and was really fussy and crying so I handed him to OH so I could go get a drink and he just fell asleep in his arms.. I put him to bed fully expecting him to wake up since he hasn't gone to bed that early in a good month or so but nope, he slept through til 4am! I don't think it's a problem that he's awake after he eats, but he might sleep longer if he eats closer to bed time... but they're all different!

Yes this is what I think I meant although I think its partly down to when I go to sleep. I go to bed at 9pm and am asleep by 10. If LO feeds at 6 and sleeps. at 8 and I sleep at 10 then my amount of sleep is shorter than if he fed at 8 and then went to sleep straight away.

So a selfish thing for me really, i just want a longer stretch of sleep without going to bed at 6! I do always try and feed him before he goes to sleep but if he's not hungry he wont take my boob.

Breast is much different than bottle feeding formula. Formula takes longer to digest so they sleep longer. Alex still wakes for one or two feeds at night, but has started settling for longer periods of time Go with it and don't worry about what others say. I betcha anything it's not the norm

I don't think it matters hun, aidan sleeps straight after bottle but has only started feeding at these times recently and he just got into that routine himself. He used to feed a good 2 hours before bed. X x x
