Child benefit question

hi all,

we have an apointment to register our baby in 2 weeks when she will be 5 weeks old - we then have to wait 2 weeks for her birth certificate as they no longer give you one on the day - that will make her about 7 weeks old. As soon as we have the certificate i will send off child benefit form

will they back pay the 7 weeks and if so what happens do you just get it in a lump sum with your first payment? Any one who knows please let me know

Thanks

Kay xxx

Yes they will back pay you. I also thought they had to be registered witin 21 days?

Also, why do u need to wait 2 weeks before you get the birth cert? Thats silly!

is the back pay in a lump sum do you know and yes it is 21 days in scotland. i have had a nightmare - i am having to wait two weeks for an appointment and have to travel to another town to do it as ours is two busy and then wait a further 2 weeks for the certificate as they have started sending them to a central office to be processed - i am unimpressed tbh xxx

I had to wait far longer than that to register Jack, the backlog at the civic centre was silly!

It is backdated up to 3 months and is a lumpsum yes
