Baby Sign Anyone?

I have been doing simple signs with Evelyn since she was born (started in the hospital) and was wondering if anyone else on here does baby sign with their LO as well? Also when did your LO's first start signing back and understanding what you are signing to them?

I know she is too young but when I say and sign "mommy" to Evelyn she moves her little hand to her chin like I do when making the "mommy" sign only she hasn't figured out how to uncurl her hand yet, and when I sign and say "milk" to Evy she opens and closes her hand like she is signing milk. Also when I say and sign milk she gives me huge smiles. : )

Am I just getting excited or could LO already be understanding what I am saying and doing ?

I'm not sure how early they can attempt to sign, but I've heard it is great for baby, I'd love to go to a baby sign class, I don't know many signs, I'd like to teach my eldest as he's not speaking yet so would help him loads!

Good luck with it!

I've signed up for a baby signing class near me that starts next week via tinytalk - I don't know much about it yet but the teacher said it's suitable from newborn onwards - so I don't see why she couldn't be starting to understand from 2 months?? Or even if she's just trying to copy you and doesn't understand what it means yet then it still shows she wants to communicate with you. Very exciting! Keep with it x

My signing teacher said babies usually start to sign in context from 9 months, that's not to say you haven't got one clever little girl copying you x

My teacher said they can understand signs from early on, but probably won't attempt the signs themselves until 9 or 10 months. I think yours is probably coincidence. But keep doing it, it's great for babies!
