After a month? There is no way I could have gone back after a month - it took the first 3 months to get her sleeping decently at night - I was falling off my feet before that. I'm not going back for a year - fortunately my circumstances allow me that luxury though.

Not read the rest of the replies but I think 4 weeks is very soon. Both for you to feel ready to leave LO and for you to be physically fit. You might think your ok after the birth but your body takes time to recover.

Useless info for you. One of the oldest peices of employment law in the UK dating from 1891 Is that women were not allowed to do factory work within 4 weeks of giving birth. It is also illegal for women to return to office jobs within 2 weeks of giving birth. If it was recognised over 100 years ago you can gurentte that it would be very hard for a woman to return to work that quick.

I think you should look at other options.

tbh think unless you have no choice i think you need to be with ur baby. even 4-6 week old is so dependent on you and as a mother itll kill u to leave her/him.

im going back to work when lo is 7 months and i think thats too soon for me.
Reading things like this makes me wish the US was a civilized nation and actually gave maternity benefits so people can stay home.

In the US, a good number of mothers aren't even paid for maternity leave, and the maximum amount of time work is required to hold your position (assuming they meet the qualifications to even be required for it) is 12 weeks.

I want to live in a civilized nation that values mothers.

Seriously. I just noticed that I got docked about 150$ for taking my maternity leave! Absolutely ridiculous! Am I not allowed time to be with my child?

Ooh! Another Utahn!

And to answer the question? Nope, not in the US. Mothers are not valued here at all.

I wish there was a year maternity leave like Canada for the US. However, each company in the US does things differently. I've had many clients who have had months off paid maternity leave, and others who had very little. Each state is different and so is each company. Some companies in the US even have paid paternity leave.

I went back at 6 weeks, and loved it! Work has always been a big part of my life, and although LO is now the main joy in my life, I still love working and I think it makes me appreciate my time with little man even more.

I work full time (3 12 hour shifts per week), and I was very lucky in the fact that little man was only waking up once during the night at 6 weeks, and was sleeping through at 8 weeks. Most of the women I work with have had the same situation.

I am in the US and my company only paid for 4 weeks paid maternity leave.. and I am considered lucky as most do not pay at all! The remaining 8 weeks I was allowed to take off were unpaid unfortunetly.

I have to agree with most people here - to be honest I couldnt bear to contemplate going back to work now and my LO is nearly 6 months old. Plus in the beginning the sleep deprivation is a killer, I was a walking zombie until about 3 months when it started to get better, so how I would have done a job is beyond me.
It's definitely possible, and some do, but I do think you may feel very differently when your LO is here.
