Sick baby?

My 9 week old son hasn't been right for a few days, he's really restless, sleeping most of the time and his nappies are terrible!

He has had diorreha for what seems like a few weeks, he will be straining n trying to poo for days with nothing, then on day 4 or 5 he will explode where the poo is yellowy green with mucusy stuff in it n will be literally running out of the nappy n it will take 3 nappies to soak it up

Is this just normal with the poop? x

It doesn't sound right to me. A little poosplosion isn't unusual but for it to take 3 nappies to soak it up isn't right. I'd take him to the doctors. He could have an intolerance to lactose or cows milk protein x

Thank u I feel bad for not taking him sooner! He's a bit warm around 38.0 in the docs on Wednesday! How do they test for intolerance? x

I was going to say potentially cows milk intolerance as well, my youngest had very similar. Even in the first week of life he'd skip 2 days between poos but was gaining well so it wasn't an issue of not enough food, also you mention the mucus that is another symptom. Although my son's problems started from birth that's quite unusual it usually starts showing up 1-2 months of age. Usually they advise eliminating dairy from your own diet to see if there is any improvement as the tests are prone to being unreliable (there is a stool sample test done usually) I eliminated all dairy from my own diet and he was like a different baby, his symptoms started to diminish overnight and by 2-3 weeks later he was completely fine, and pooing lots of times a day. Even up to weaning he would still poo most days except for one time he went 4 or 5 days, so him skipping days was clearly not comfy for him. At 5 months I risked eating a cake with a tiny bit of cream decoration on as I went to an event and everything had dairy in it, I was worried it would affect him but he was fine and so I continued introducing dairy back into my diet. When he was weaned onto solids a month later I tried him with dairy, just small amounts at first and he was fine! Xx
