Is it too old fashioned?

Hi ladies,

OH and I have been talking a little bit about baby names. He is really hoping for a boy this time as we both have a girl each from previous relationships. He said if it's a boy he wants to name it after his dad which is George William.

To me George is an old fashioned name, and I suggested William George so that it could be shortened to Will, but he said he wants to carry on the tradition that was his dad named after his dad etc. All this even though he has a brother and neither of them are called George lol

There are already 3 boy grandchildren and none of them were called George, more modern names for all. Our girls are called Nika and Lilly, so again quite modern.

If it is a girl I'd be quite happy with Georgia, or Georgie - I like them both, but I'm just not so keen on George and it is the fact that I see it as old fashioned.

Can anyone reassure me it isn't so lol The only George I know of recently is Peppa Pig's little brother!

I like George if that helps.

Compared to your girls names I suppose it might seem old fashioned but I thinkgeorge, Lilly and Nika sound good together

My Cousins are George and Lily, I think they work well together
We have the tradition that the first born sons first born son is named after the paternal grandad. The flow in our family is Thomas then Francis, then Thomas etc. My dads dad altered it slightly, and my dad was Frank, but my younger brother is Thomas. My dad passed away recently, so even though (as a daughter) I don't traditionally need to use his name, our baby (regardless of gender) will have Frankie somewhere in their name

I don't think so. I think George is one of those timeless classic names that never go out of fashion. (been used for many generations.. even back in the medieval era...like william)

names like dorothy or barbara can be out of fashion in my opinion

I agree, I think George is a timeless name and suits a baby all the way through to an old man.

Thanks ladies,

You've made me feel better about it. I honestly had no problems with what my OH wants to do - I think it's lovely, but I just had a stigma in my head about George but you've helped with that.

My Oh says the same as you guys it's timeless classic, well it looks like a boy might be George William after all! :-) x
