I knew someone in the uk with that name my ex was portugese and his brothers name was Thiago and his other brother was Deigo. Theres nothing wrong with the name x

I like that it's different. With names I always think of 'the phone test', that is, say he calls up to make an appointment or order a pizza or ask a date to the prom and the receptionist/busy-Saturday-night-employee/father asks for his name. Will they get it? Might they hear 'Diego'?

I think if you're going different, go far enough different that it's not taken as the nearest name 'relative'.
