BFP but....

So much to my shock I had a BFP this morning. We've been ttc for about 8 months, but I had a full, heavy period last month. There wasn't any bding until about 5 days ago, because I was getting positive opks, however after a week of pos. opk and bd-ing there was no temp shift, plus I was having some light bleeding and spotting this week. I also wasn't feeling great and had a bad gut feeling so I called and made a gyno appointment, but can't get in until April 19. Someone in another forum, suggested I try an hpt just to be sure. I reluctantly did, just to rule it out, braced myself for another bfn and much to my shock a second line showed up!

I'm scared to be elated because something must be wrong. Why all the bleeding? Also, I was so sure I wasn't preggo and that because of the mid cycle bleeding this month wasn't going to happen this month, so I've let all the normal precautions go, I went out for drinks with a friend last night, I had x-rays at the dentist, and have been climbing up on high stuff and took a huge fall last week. I haven't been particularly diligent about prenatals...

I've done everything wrong, I'm totally worried and thought when this happened I would be so excited, but mostly I'm devastated that I think our little bean is probably at risk. We've been trying for so long I just can't believe that I've messed this up!

You have not done anything wrong hun, sometimes things just happen for a reason and take us by surprise.
My advise would be to see a doctor next week and discuss everything. Just because you have bled doesnt necessarily mean that anything is wrong, some women do bleed but it would be wise to get checked.
Also see if the test lines get darker over the next few days, if they do then its a good sign i would say.
Good luck

Thanks for the words of encouragement. What a roller-coaster today has been.

I went to a family doc today and he says that he thinks what I thought was a period might have been am early miscarriage and the lingering HCG is causing the positive hpt and symptoms. We did a blood test today and well do another in two days to see if HCG levels are increasing or decreasing.

This has to be from my last cycle which means if I am positive then I'd be about 6 weeks and the current bleeding worries me almost as much as the 'period' two weeks ago.

I'm still pretty worried, but I guess what will be will be... Wish me luck!

Awww sweetie, nothing you have done is wrong.

If you are worried about the drinking, rest assured that if you are pregnant what you eat and drink does not affect the embryo yet, it's too early.
And sure prenatal vitamins are really good, but women have been giving birth for a very long time, way before those vitamins were around, so I would not worry too much for missing a few days, you will be fine, esspecially if you take them good now *because the do have a lot of benefits)
Just trying to make you see nothing you did was as bad as you seem to think so.

Even bleeding while pregnant happens, and to more women than you think. But I do understand that you must be worried, but try and breathe ok?

I wish you all the luck in the world, and a whole pool full of baby dust Keep us updated please?

Thanks Miaw, a night of sleep has given me a bit of perspective after a roller coaster day, I'm still worried and would like some clarity, but recognize it's out of my control. I can only do the best I can from this point forward, but still I'll be kicking myself for awhile. I'll post when I have some sort of answer. Thanks for your thoughtfullness!
