Anemia and breastfeeding

My iron levels have been very low throughout my pregnancy. Even now that I'm taking a supplement twice a day in addition to my prenatal which also has iron, my hemoglobin level has stayed around 9.4. Does anyone know if this will cause problems with breastfeeding? Can it cause low supply? I tried googling it but got mixed answers. I'm so worried now that I won't be able to BF successfully.

Not sure about supply but make sure you are taking iron supplement with a source of vitamin c like oj. It helps with absorption. Good luck and hope it gets better

My iron was 7.7 after I gave birth, and it didn't affect my breastfeeding whatsoever. I did feel really tired and horrible though- and being overtired can have negative effect on supply in some cases. So I recommend you make extra effort to put everything else aside and concentrate on feeding. Do you have an OH? If so get them to bring drinks, snacks, do nappies, pass the baby etc., so you can just relax as much as possible apart from feeding.

Good luck, your LO is nearly here, exciting!! x

Yes I have an OH and I'm sure he'll be a big help during that time. He's even promised to do all the nighttime nappy changes (we'll see about that lol). And I know! I can't wait

I was anemic during/after pregnancy. I started with a low supply but eventually everything righted itself. I do not think that was due to the iron though.
