6 months+ and breastfeeding in public

Halle is getting really big now and many people assume she's alot older than the 6 months she is, and I've recently noticed I've been getting some funny looks when I breastfeed her in public.

It is starting to get to me a bit and I have been trying to cut down on the feeds now that we're weaning but when she wants boob, she wants boob and nothing else will do

Has anyone else experienced this and is it not the 'done' thing to breastfeed in public once they get to a certain age? if that is the case we're going to be stuck in the house alot more now....

xxx

I honestly don't care what anyone thinks, if anyone gave me a dirty look I'd ignore it, if it had kept happening or they were close enough to me for me not to make a big scene I would tell them off lol. We nursed in public past a year old, Hayden nursed to 19mo but probably around 15mo or so we didn't nurse in public because he didn't ask then anymore

Aww hunny keep at it! dont let joe bloggs get to you your doing the best for you little girl thats all that matters!!!

When i had DD 4 years ago i did it anywhere and everywhere either i didnt get any dodgy looks or i just didnt notice!

My DS is only 3 days old and imventuring out in public tomorrow for the first time ... to say im dreading it is an understatement because we havent mastered latching on yet but im terrified about being stuck in the house all the time!

Ellis has just turned 6 months and so far i've not experienced any problems when out bfing-if anything when i was out with her yesterday i was getting a few smiles (i think) The good thing about nursing an older baby is that they are experts, they latch on straight away and feed fast, the down side is that they are curious monkeys and if they are in a nosey mood the whole room gets to see more than i'm happy exposing tbh. As for what people think-who cares? There are always going to be narrow minded morons who think you should stay at home under a tent to breastfeed your baby-enjoy the fact its winding them up and carry on doing what you know is best for your baby.

I must say, I feel like we have had a couple of funny looks but I really haven't reacted to it. They are still babies so why should it be any different? Like Mari said, the only problem I have had has been when Poppy has decided to have a gander at what's going on around her but they are so quick and efficient at feeding at that age, before you know it they have had their fill and you can get on with whatever you were doing.

Don't be ashamed or worried...be proud!

I feed Charlotte, who's 8, nearly 9 months in public. I haven't noticed any funny looks, but if anyone is funny about it, IMHO, it's their problem not mine.

She feeds so quickly now, and we both know what we're doing so feeds tend to ber very short now.

I thought it was just me being paranoid!

I plan to keep feeding oscar in public for a while but I do find that people stare in not a very nice way now. Oscar is quite big and has a loud voice so I think people think he's older than 6 months.

On the positive side a lady came over to me last week after I'd fed and said that she was so pleased that women still feed in public and I should be proud of myself. My head was so big after I didn't think that I was going to get through the door
