Period return drying up my milk! help

Ever since my period returned at 6 months pp my milk supply seems very very low. My breasts always feel soft and LO never seems to get enough anymore..he gets so frustrated. Does anyone know of anything I can do to replenish my milk supply? I really want to bf until at least 12 months. I should add I am also on the mini pill and LO is on solids (3 meals per day). Does anyone have any advice or tips?

Aw that's not good! I can't advise as I'm only 6months feeding but I have called the national breastfeeding line numerous times for advice and they are excellent. I reckon they give better advise than GPS and the hvs personally because they've been through it all xx

It's normal to see a dip in supply around AF and sometimes ovulation. Lots of women find calcium-magnesium supplements help with that.

Im not sure about your part of the world, but in Australia at the chemists there is a herb called "fenugreek" that you can take to increase your milk supply, I was recommended it by my lactation consultant when I felt like my milk supply was getting low, it worked wonders

I have this, as well. Motherlove More Milk Plus helps, as does the calcium-magnesium supplementation from ovulation through AF. I also allow additional nursing and add in extra pumping sessions when my supply dips. It always comes back after AF. I also accidentally discovered that quinoa massively boosts my supply. I also eat steel cut oatmeal every morning.

My LO will sometimes have some extra milk from the freezer on the days I don't pump enough, but I add an extra pumping session at night to tell my body to make more milk. This seems to keep her full enough without further hurting my supply. I don't do any other supplementation so as to let her nurse more to boost my supply back.

Also, the mini pill can hurt your supply, so be careful. And your supply will naturally start to decline as your LO has more solids and nurses less.

Thanks ladies I bought some fenugreek and calcium magnesium to start on and will start some pumping sessions. I haven't pumped in so long but I know it will help as it used to engorge me.
