Stringy breast milk

My son unlatched and I noticed some milk running down his cheek so I wiped it off, but it was all stringy and slimy. It had the same consistency of the cervical mucus you get while ovulating. Any other time I wipe milk off his cheek it has been normal. Is this from milk mixing with him drool or what? He's been very fussy about nursing today so I'm just wondering if my milk has changed or something like that.

Could you have had a plugged duct? If so, this can happen when it's unplugged.

It would also explain the fussiness!

Could be...not really sure how to tell if I've had a plugged duct. I've never had one before.

Stringy milk generally means a duct has been blocked and what you're seeing is the result if it clearing. Basically cheezy milk! Not harmful to baby and great for you as it avoids mastitis!

Sounds like a clog to me too. A clogged duct would be a painful and hard spot in your breast.

i was going to say possibly just milk mixed with drool, especially if it was "stringy" in the sense that it felt and looked more like CM

If you've not been in pain, or noticed a lump then probably not a clogged duct.

I'd have said milk & baby spit!
