breastfeeding in public poll

with all this bristol bus news story going round, i thought it would be interesting to do a poll on how public women are with their breastfeeding.

not to accuse anyone of course - i just wonder when we count, what proportion of us are brave enough to do it out and about. for myself i am a total wimp and avoid public feeding like the plague- not sure how i have made it to nearly 5 months without doing it! i'm happy in front of friends and family but still nervous about 'going public' and i feel like i maybe should be - and be proud!!!

What are others' experiences?

ps.poll options might not fit you exactly (like i will feed in front of some family but not others) but i tried to stagger it so pick the nearest to you.

I BF in public but discreetly -with blanket over my shoulder, or sitting in a discreet spot - one of the too. I feel fine doing it.

i too am a gutless wonder and avoid it if i can, i also have huge bbs so covering up is a must. i fed in public at my sons swimming lesson and i felt liberated! wouldnt do it if i cd help it tho.x

I did it whenever and wherever. now she doesn't feed as much during the day so VERY rarely does she need feeding in public but if she did want a feed whilst out, I wouldnt hesitate in feeding her. I don't use a coverup or blanket as I think they're horrible and don't like covering up her face + anyway shed just try and pull it off. That being said, you still dont see anything.

I will do it in public discreetly - I don't just whip the boob out! I think it would be too hard to find a special bf place if LO was hungry - since when he wants food, he wants it now! LOL ... But it's not that weird around here - you see it all the time.

I'm with Blah11 - I have fed and will feed Alyssa wherever and whenever she needs it. I have always managed to be discreet about it, and have never had anything like a dodgy look or snide comment. Now that she's 1 she rarely nurses during the day, but if she needed milk, she'd have her milk. I don't use blankets or any cover-ups either as they distract her, and I don't feel that she should have to be hidden away to have her meal.

To each their own though

I'm happy to feed her anywhere. She's got very distractable lately though and whips her head up and around, so I have to be a bit careful! Before I had her I thought I'd be far more nervous, but I'm fine with it now. I don't cover her head either, just make sure my clothes cover me up well.

I will feed wherever if Archie needs feedings. I will be descreet about it I wouldn't let the world see my nipples but would definately feed whereever!

I would love someone to approach me and complain. I would put up such a good fight!

I'm happy feeding pretty much anywhere; the only people I have felt uncomfy in front of our my inlaws coz I can tell they feel awkward, I usually sit at the dining table in their lounge-diner room so I am a bit separate. When I first went MIL showed me an upstairs room I could "sort geogre out in" - dh said "great that'll keep his stinky nappies out of the main room"
mil said "& he can have a quiet feed" my fab hubby said " oh I don't like that jo could be stuck here half the afternoon on her own, shell just feed him downstair" gotta live him

My bf counsellor suggested doing it in a mei tai, so i put him in there if i need to feed him or were out walking, i think its discrete, i hope so, depends on how high i have him i guess! x
