I've been feeling a bit sore in one breast for a couple of days, and I've just found that there's a huge lump inside it. I'm pretty sure this is to do with blocked ducts. I've been getting Alice to keep feeding from it and I've been massaging, but it's not clearing. I really don't want to get mastitis again. Any tips?
during growth spurts
when I wear a bra that doesn't quite fit properly
when I'm not drinking enough!
What I do to get rid of it is like you are doing, massage it although it makes me feel a bit queasy! And get LO on to try to drain it, I try to position her so that her chin is near the duct as apparently the motion of her jaw can clear it. I had a really stubborn one during our 6week growth spurt and I sat with a hot water bottle on it all evening and used my breast pump till I really couldn't take any more my nipple was sore! At the time it still felt hard but when I woke up the next morning it was gone
I'd say try the hot water bottle and drink lots of water, keep massaging , and pump if you can.
Thank you! I'm now sitting here with a hot wheat bag on it and I'm going to give the pump a try when I'm feeling brave enough. I've just noticed that after massaging it for a while a white lump has appeared on my nipple. Is this the blockage do you think?
Exciting developments here, which are probably TMI, but something popped, and milk is flowing freely again! I've spent a few minutes expressing and the lump has almost gone. I'm very relieved as it's not long since my last bout of mastitis. Thanks for the advice ladies. If this happens again I'll know what to do!
i read somewhere that a white dot is the blockage, hope your feeling better.
That's interesting! I was about to reply "dunno!" I'll watch out for one if it happens again, no doubt it will as I'm terrible at drinking enough fluids and I only have 2 nursing bras so no doubt during the next growth spurt I'll find myself wearing that bra and not drinking enough etc...........
