Nursing past 2 years? Now I need some advice.

So Brennan is still quite happy to nurse several times a day, and I am usually happy to let him. BUT he is now starting to not want to stop nursing, I will tell him to let go, and he won't. I was able to hold his nose, and he'd de-latch, but now he just clamps down with his teeth, takes a deep breath, and resumes nursing. It is really driving me nuts, and makes me want to wean him altogether. Any one have any advice on how to deal with this? I know there are a few who have nursed for this long, and wonder if they had this kinda problem. I have a toddler La Leche Meeting in about 2 weeks, and will take this question with me as well. It's so frustrating.

I nursed Logan for 2 years. Then I cut him off ( a few days after his bday). By that time we were down to nursing only at naptime/bedtime/ and boo boos.

Are you saying you tell him to stop nursing and he doesn't want to so he bites? If thats the case - pop your finger in his mouth before you tell him to stop. When he bites down he will only get your finger and not your nipple. That will help YOU some.

I think at this age - its great to still be nursing - but I know for us - I def had started putting limits on it. I wasn't forcing him to wean - but was making it easier on myself. It was no longer "on demand" feeding.

If you want ideas on how to wean him... I have a few that worked for me...

Sounds like a typical toddler tbh. I'd probably start using the finger method above in combination with my usual discipline method - after all he's being naughty. If Kaya was doing that sort of thing with me I'd ask her to stop, if she didn't I'd warn her that if she didn't stop I'd put her out the room, I'd then count to three and if she hadn't let go I'd put her out the room. He's just testing bounderies atm and he needs to learn to respect that your breasts are yours, not his.

thank you. I am happy to keep nursing, but it is the whole issue of him not letting go when I tell him to that is really making it difficult.

marley, You are so right, and I hadn't looked at it from this prospective. He is being naughty about it. Hmmmm.

thank you ladies. Overall I have been very lucky to have a easy and enjoyable nursing relationship with Brennan. It has had its ups and downs, and really trying times, but I have enjoyed it more than I ever imagined, and love nursing him still. It makes me a little sad now knowing that our relationship is close to an end (I think), but we are going to start tying for a new baby this month, so hopefully will have a new baby to nurse before too long.
