Low milk supply at night?? (8-12ish)

I've noticed in the late evening between about 8pm to midnight-ish my milk supply seems much lower. DS frets a lot more at this time and it is difficult to get him down. Does anyone else have this problem at this time of night? Is there a way of encouraging the milk supply at this time??? I'm fine during the day to the extent I am dripping!!!!

I'm sorry I have no advice hun, but I'm exactly the same! I have ordered some free samples of nursing tea to see if this will help - you can get it here if you want to give it a go http://www.ulula.co.uk/organic-nursing-tea.php

I had this problem (normal that you have less milk in the evening and most in the early hours and first thing in the morning) so I do the same as lynnikins. I started doing that at about 3 weeks. OH gives the bottle while I pump.

my milk supply has always been lower in the evenings as well, which is why as PP said, pumping in the morning is helpful

Im afraid its just the way the body works, you are normally most full in the morning and your supply decreases as the day goes on. Your body also uses the evening/night time to work out how much it is your baby wants. I read somewhere that this is because if there is a plentiful supply baby will often comfort suck a small amount for a while whereas if there is less it will work to get more milk out. Its kind of natures way of measuring how much they really want to work out how much to produce over night for the next day iykwim?
Thats a very over simplified explanation but its what i understand lol. But yeh, giving a bottle at night could be very detrimental to your overall supply so do so cautiously xxx

I had the same problem in the early days - in fact, this was my experience right up until LO was about 4 months old (ie. that he'd fuss and pull off the boob constantly whenever he feed between about 7pm and midnight). It used to drive me crazy.

I think it's fairly normal and it's something that just needs to be toughed out. Once LO is about 6 weeks old you could try what Lynnikins suggested and offer LO a bottle of EBM in the evenings. Just make sure that when LO is drinking you're expressing around the same time to keep your supply stimulated. This worked quite well for us.
