Sinusitis and breastfeeding

Anyone know what I can do to treat sinusitis while breastfeeding? All the decongestants I can find are not suitable.

My face really hurts

Thanks x

Don't want to read and run, but don't have an answer I'm afraid! The only thing I can think of that might be safe is melting some Vicks in hot water then inhaling the steam. Not sure though so I hope someone else can help you!

Hope you feel better soon!

I went to the good old standby Kellymom and found this very good article on the topic; it has loads of suggestions and info as to just how safe all the remedies are thought to be

http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/cold-remedy.html

Keep an eye on the sinusitis though as it can require antibiotics if the little passages in your face become infected, and the more severe it is, the stronger the antibiotics required. While there would of course be antibiotics suitable for BF, some can give you and LO a case of the runs and/or thrush so better to go to your dr asap if its not getting better very quickly xx

Good old Kellymom! I always forget to check that site -it is brill!.

Thanks for the advice, think I will give it another day then go to the docs. Can't face another dose of thrush, ugh!

Just go to your GP and ask for antibiotics. My sinusitis never goes by itself and its horrendous so I just go to GP and never have much problem getting some. Is your snot thick and green and do you have a horrid taste in your mouth? If so, just go to the docs as its infected and you need antiBs anyway.

Yes, I cured my sinus infections by flushing my sinuses with breatmilk. It is antibacterial (against bad bacteria but promotes helpful bacteria) and anti-inflammatory. I just put 2 oz of breastmilk in my neti pot and flushed 3 times a day for 2 days. I also drank plenty of hot tea with lemon & honey(mother's milk fenugreek and earl gray) and spicy chicken soup with garlic and cheyenne pepper. I figured, if it can treat conjunctivitis, why not sinusitus? It totally worked! The best part: NO ANTIBIOTICS!! YAY!!
