The Great things about BFing...

I've kinda stolen this from "Developing Doulas" on facebook

But we all come on here (Breastfeeding forum) mostly when we have a problem so thought I'd start a thread about all the great bits about Breastfeeding that they dont tell you about in books. I'll start us off:

1. No boiling kettles in the middle of the night
2. Getting drinks fetched for me whenever I'm nursing
3. Not doing housework because baby has been latched on all day
4. Only having to get out of bed if a nappy needs doing (I co-sleep)
5. Having the best excuse if I'm running late espesh for my grumpy OH- "I couldnt get ready baby needed a feed.."

Any more??

Always being able to settle LO with a boob! I can't imagine what I would do in the night if he'd finished a bottle and was still wide awake! As it is I can just keep him latched on until he falls asleep.

Not having to take bottles out - hard enough to leave the house with two, without that to worry about

An excuse to sit down every couple of hours!

The satisfaction of seeing him getting bigger and stronger, and thinking 'I did that'

I would say feeling just pretty darn special when baby just wants you and only you for a feed

this

plus the not having to sterilise stuff is a definite bonus!

My LO is in teething agony today and NOTHING was helping (I even gave her Calpol, my last resort, and she was still screaming and gnashing her fists). Decided to try nursing her and managed to settle her to the point where she fell asleep. I'm sure the Calpol had helped but I'd like to think that part of what calmed her was a mummy boob hug

Awwwww what lovely things! I only started BFing to lose the initial weight as I had a bridesmaid dress to get back into. 3 months later Im still doing it and loving it because;

1: only I feed him, and get that quality special time with him
2: travel a lot and packing a baby is hard enough work without all the bottles and stuff
3: have his feed on demand, and dont have a screaming baby he gets fed from his first hungry wimper
4: that little smile he does with his milk in his mouth and nipple on his lip when he is full but nursing for comfort

When i was pregnant I only ever heard the negitive stuff, demand feeding, lack of routine, no sleeping through, painful boobs, nipple soreness, bleeding and mastitis. Ive been feeding for 3 months exclusively, he feeds 4 hourly, sleeps through the night and ive had 1 day of pain in the first week fixed very quickly with a tablet and zero problems after! No one told me BFing could be this good or I'd not have spent 9 months worrying about it!
