What is the average amount of time before your period returns?
My son is almost 6 months and I still haven't had a period. I know it can take a while and I'm not wanting it to return any time soon, just wanting some input on what to expect and the possibility of when. Ive been having all the period like symptoms, cramps, sore back, etc - and NO I'm not pregnant...I checked
Depends. If you are practicing ecological breastfeeding (BF used to soothe, no dummies or bottles, co-sleeping, not separate from baby, feeding on demand through day and night) the average is 14.6 months. Generally 7% have AF return before 6 months, 37% between 6 and 12 months, 48% 12-24 months and 8% after 24 months. If you aren't e.g are working, supplementing with bottles, then it's likely to be sooner. Either way it's highly variable from woman to woman and child to child. That all said, I'm not doing ecological BF and haven't really ever in various ways and am nearly 14 months PP and still nothing. The cramping could be things starting up, but then again, not. I've had bad cramping since around 7 months...
I don't express, haven't given bottles and haven't been separated from my LO for more than 3 hours since birth. He still feeds through the night and uses me for comfort. My periods came back at 6.5 months, although they're very very irregular.
Wow, I never knew they heard a term Ecological Breastfeeding something new for me today.
I practice ecological BFing, my breast is the answer to almost all her problems lol, but my AF returned at 3 months exactly. I also exclusively BFd my DD1, although it was not ecological as I went back to work at 6 weeks, but was expressing and she reverse cycled, but my AF was back, once again, at 3 months exactly. x
My DD was exclusively BF for the first 6 months and then we started solids and I continued to nurse her until she was over 1 year. I pumped at work and she had bottles of EBM 3 days/week from the time she was 10 weeks old. My AF returned when she was 8 months old and then I got pregnant on the second cycle we tried, when she was 10 months old.
Those statistics are really interesting! Thanks for posting! My period came back when Bethan was about 15/16 months, and we did practice (what I now know to be!) 'Ecological Breastfeeding', so that makes sense!
Im still waiting for mine too. I bf on demand, sometimes i pump and she gets a bottle, we nurse 3+ times at night. I have had some EWCM, and creamy CM but no other signs of the Im anticipating it taking a while yet to come back.
