After being dairy free for 6wks thought I'd try some walkers sweet chilli sensations to see if a small amount of milk would affect her and ive spent the last 12 hrs covered in sick! It's thicker than before as she's now on gaviscon but still not the greatest so still completely milk free.
Oh well only another 9 months ;-)

I just done a sort of trial of these......I was at work and for som reason it totally went out my head the whole "chilli sensations = butter powder" thing...... but, for a baby who would react to these pretty majorly at New Year (within 12-24 hours, bumpy rash all over face, snuffly nose and snottiness, projectile vomiting, refluxing/coughing/gagging episodes, followed by what appeared to be stomach cramps and finally green stringy poo....about 3 days of screaming in total), this time he was just a bit pukey, not just possetting - but not projectile across the room fountains either, somewhere inbetween......didn't seem to bothered by this though poo was a bit on the greener side than usual but there was no real evidence of the stomach cramps.......
So there is hope! Hang around here, I did a lot at first until i got used to the limited diet, now i just go on autopilot, other things are generally "off the menu".....still go to resturants, i just tell them i have a dairy allergy (easier than trying to explain the whole baby-breastfeeding-CMPI to them) and theyre usually really good at working around it

If you're struffling for substitutes too ask about here too, im still finding subs i had never thought of before!

Thank you Booda, my eldest also has CMPI but I never realised how much hidden dairy was in 'grown up' food. My youngest also seems to be reacting to large amounts of soya which is a bit new to me.
The only thing I'm really missing at the moment is shop bought coleslaw haven't found a dairy free one yet xx

Hi dairy-free mums! I'm resurrecting this thread (although I see it's only been inactive about a month) for our newer CMPI mums, becausethere's so much good stuff in here and it helps those in the early (&lets face it- difficult!) stages of going dairy-free.
Having trialled some dairy back in my diet and not getting good results I'm re-joining the totally dairy-free ranks again!
Incidentally, while I'm here, has anyone else found that they're being put under pressure by health professionals to "try and get them onto dairy" as quick as possible when weaning? I've found hv's (community nurses) are like this with me, and also the dietician. Everyone is obsessed with the food pyramid diagram like you can only get protein and calcium from dairy! Kids in south-east Asia dont grow up eating lots of dairy, vegan kids don't eat dairy! As far as I'm concerned, if I make sure she's getting the extra protein and calcium it shouldn't be an issue .
Anyway, just wondered if anyone else has found this x

Can't say they have Ruth, although I tend to avoid HV's and docs unless it's completely necessary! My HV doesnt seem to nderstand cmpi anyway, just asks 'hows his lactose allergy?' :/ lol..........no words really. Dietician said wait til 9-10 months and try small reintroduction but that was ages ago....i've tried one or to things with hidden dairy, inconclusive though as he's such a high needs baby anyway. BUT no sign of the rash or snuffliness, which is progress! Just general unsettledness and/or pukeyness but not projectile like it was.

I think you're right- avoidance is better! I was actually thinking there's not much point in going back to the dietician anyway. I'm going to play it by ear and let her have a break from dairy proteins for a while then try myself again. Good luck with your reintroductions! x

WEaning is turning into a bit of a nightmare for us, it seems Cora may have issues with wheat and egg too, although I am now questionign whether I am just over-reacting to everything and she is just normal I just get the feeling everyone thinks I am making it up - yeah cos I have been dairy free for the past 6 months for fun!

I would be interested to know what sort of foods you try to feed your LO for additional calcium and protein, I use broccoli and other green veg but am going it alone as I haven't managed to get reffered to a paediatrician or dietician for help.

Evening ladies!

Well, I can now eat what I like (but it's permanent good bye to neat milk and pretty much cream) which has been fab. My hv wants me to start giving Ally dairy ASAP, but the consultant said to wait until she's one...so we are waiting. She has had some, inadvertently, in hidden foods...and been fine. I just hope this continues.

Shiv, so sorry to hear about the potential extra dietary issues You know we all know how real it is

I've been giving Ally the fortified oat milk, and sneaking that into foods..also broccoli, parsnips, leafy green veg, salmon. Apparently all are calcium rich. How much actually gets consumed can vary I am trying not to panic, as I think BFing has plenty?

Hi shiv, sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it I'm also going gluten-free with weaning now as I think she reacted and doctor said to do 2weeks off it then try again.
Tbh the dietician hasn't been as inspirational as my hippy vegan friends
Foods I recommend are: quinoa (for calcium and protein), millet, hemp seeds (amazing little powerhouses!) and I've yet to give it to dd as I've only made cookies out of it b4 now... Blackstrap molasses.
I make an awesome (not my recipe, credit where it's due!) hemp hummus, hemp is packed with protein and essential fatty acids, the tahini in it is a good source of calcium. So easy to make, and I stir a spoon of it into LO's dinner.
The company "plum" do an early weaning dairy-free "four grain porridge" which is delish and contains quinoa, amaranth, millet &?rice?. You could see how your LO likes it then make your own. Quinoa is an amazing food. I've bought quinoa flakes, millet flakes and brown rice flakes and mixed them for cooking porridge. I find it nice but I think it's a bit too lumpy/chewy for LO yet, although she will eat it, just slowly!
