Electric Pump hurts my breasts....!!

Hiya Ladies,

I use Electric breast pump to pump my breast milk... but left side breast started hurting too much.... dont know why... any idea?
when i use manual pump, it doesnt hurt that much....

- my left breast is lil bigger in size than the right one.... i get more milk in left side than right side breast... infact i get 90% milk ifrom left breast and 10% from right breast.... what could be the reason?

the fit of the breastshields may not be right? If the nipple is turning white at the base then it is too small.
Also, do you adjust the strength of the pump? I was told to dial it up until it hurts then dial back until it doesn't.

What pump do you have? I had the Medela Swing electric one, and it really hurt but then I got a different shield size and it was much much better

yeah i also use the same Medela electric pump... the problem is with the size....i have bigger left breast and smaller right breast... so i really cant go by exact size...
the pump is ok with smaller size breast... so i reduced the strength of the pump on my bigger size breast and it is ok now... not that much pain

anyways, thanks for ur replies

I started using these: http://www.pumpinpal.com/ they are way more comfortable than the standard flanges. They are a US based company so not sure if that helps.

Be careful with electric pumps! I myself and many friends have got mastitis from using the as they don't drain properly

Definately manual pump. Or electric and then manual... But most efficient way is baby straight on the boob.

I've never used a hand pump and never gotten mastitis. Must vary based on the person
