Help me get off the sofa!

My six week old has me pinned to the sofa all day
She feeds about every 2 hours which is fine but she wants to have my nipple in her mouth all the time. After a feed she falls asleep with my boob in her mouth and sucks lightly and occasionally so I know it's a comfort thing rather than feeding. Eventually she'll let it fall out of her mouth but then wakes until I put it back in. This goes on until she gets into a deeper sleep.

If I try moving her to her moses basket she wakes after a few minutes when she realises I'm not holding her and it starts all over again.

I'm not opposed to giving her a dummy but she doesn't like them. She'll tolerate a MAM one for short periods sometimes but I have to wiggle it about to get her to take it and I don't want to force it on her.

Has anyone been in the same position? Will she grow out of it?

My lo also has a pacifier and was given one the second day at the hospital. she does the exact same thing... I normally sit and hold her until she's in a deeper sleep and can't fight it to comfort suck.

My LO was exactley the same.

It can seem really hard at the time but your LO will grow out of this as she gets more confident in herself and her environment.

In the meantime look at your daily routine and the things you are struggling to get done. Is there anything in particular you're finding hard? We may know some tips to make it easier

My LO was exactly the same and would not take a dummy; he had a particularly horrendous night at 3 days old and he wouldn't take it then-so its not that we left it too long. We could get him to take it sometimes when he was about 6 weeks but it would make him furious and breathe in loads of air through the little holes on the front-leading to him being windy and grumpy and not sleeping so it was completely counterproductive. Then at 12 weeks he all of a sudden got the hang of sucking his thumb and could self settle himself; he stopped at about 7 months xx

OMG! this must be very draining. Have you tried the avent soothie? My LO wouldn't take any kind of soother at 1st until we found the avent soothie. Now she can't get enough it has def made life a bit easier.
I wish u the best of luck!

Sounds very much like my baby daughter lol I am not using a dummy with her. I am not completely opposed to it but not really in favour unless there is a real "need"... So I just waited it out and she is much better now! It is just a phase, I am sure she will grow out of it!
Just thinking though; are you sure she is not simply in a growth spurt? The fact that she sucks lightly and occasionally with her eyes closed does not mean she is not feeding, although not as much as at other times...

Thanks everyone!

I'm just struggling to get anything done that takes more than 5 minutes because that's about as much time as I get before she wakes up and starts crying. She'll play with me for a few minutes but then starts rooting and then gets upset if she doesn't get it.

oblada18, I'm sure it's not a growth spurt because it's more like my nipple is just inside her lip and she's making the little sucking movements but not actually sucking if you know what I mean?

I wonder if I've left it too long to introduce a dummy. What do you think?
Unless she just doesn't like the MAM and TT ones I've tried. I'll have to look out for the Advent one you mentioned Liftergirl.

I really hope she grows out of it soon!

I feel for U! My LO was a very high needs baby she always wanted to be in our arms. and at 3 months is still like that.
What helped me was carrying her in a baby sling. especially in the morning so i could at least get sum things done.

That's a good idea. I'll have to try her in the sling again. I have a Moby wrap. She didn't like the newborn hold at all - would scream the house down - but she liked the Kangaroo hold. The only thing is I can't seem to put it on by myself.
