But its grape flavored lol. It tastes really good, but she cries when I give it to her. A couple weeks ago my 5 yr old gave her a crumb of her cookie and my baby started crying. If she hadnt had started crying I wouldnt have known. And jealous? Mean? Really? Some women have no tact on this site
Didn't want to hurt feelings, just pointing out what may be going on. Puree some grapes and see if she pushes that out. She has to discover her own tastes and rediscover. My first would like something one week and not the next. I simply love feeding my baby and like that I come first before daddy does, but if she was to even out time w/ my hubby, I'd be jealous lol(an analogy). I do see that your baby is ready or she wouldn't be grabbing things off of the floor to eat them. I thought I was tactful, but I apologize if there was any offense. Hope my explanation serves itself.

Good luck!

My son was 7-8 months when he started solid foods. I offered before that but he wouldn't try at all. He also had problems with low iron - don't know if they're connected though. He was a fantastic eater until about 14 months and now is extremely picky and eats very little. So I wouldn't say that later weaning means better eating. xx

I literally had never heard of BLW until a few months ago!! Here everybody just does the puree baby food. So that's the only experience I have with that. But I would Love to do the BLW. Get the baby led weaning cookbook by Gill Rapley. Absolutely excellent.

The only thing I'd add to this is that a lot of babies become fussier eaters the closer they reach to 1. Babies love food initially and then become a bit more independent. If she was started earlier, she'd have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of foods before she started becoming fussier. I'd be a bit worried that maybe she would be a bit of a lazy eater as well. I'm not saying she would be, but that would be a worry in my mind about my baby. I don't know anything about the health benefits of waiting, so unfortunately can't give you any advice there. I hope whatever route you choose, you and your lo are happy xx

Found this report from the British Dietetic Association on weaning which is quite interesting.

http://www.bda.uk.com/publications/s...entWeaning.pdf

Obviously there may be different recommendations in the US but I quite like that most of the references on this one are available for reading on pubmed or similar. I'm nosey and like to read the actual studies that the guidelines are based on, as it often gives a more rounded picture I think.

It still seems to say that weaning has to be tailored to the individual baby in the end so I guess you just have to do what you feel is right for your baby

I'm not sure I agree with this. Babies certainly become harder to spoon feed as they get older, but no babies I know have become fussier with regards to the range of food (although some parents perceive a fussiness regarding things like sweet tastes and the like, but I haven't experienced that at all with my LO, who happily eats a plain natural Greek yoghurt straight after eating a very sweet satsuma)

Again, Gill Rapley has commented that these stories of babies getting fussier with food as the weaning age increases are all based on studies that test a baby's response after being spoon fed a puréed vegetable. I do believe that allowing self feeding would bypass the issues raised in the studies regarding weaning age.

I also read that they may not like a food one day, but it doesn't mean they hate it. Alex hated cream cheese at first and now he loves it.

Oh yeah, totally this.

We've offered LO tomatoes and brocolli since we started weaning, and he's always licked them once and thrown them on a the floor. Beginning of January, he randomly picked up a huge floret of broccoli and ate the whole thing, tiny strip at a time and really savoured it. Last week, he picked up a half cherry tomato and chewed it and swallowed.

If you'd have asked me before Christmas whether he liked brocolli and tomato, I'd have said no. But we still kept offering him it, and one day he just decided to eat! Brocolli is now a firm favourite, it seems
