For those ladies exclusively pumping...

My husband works overseas and I plan on taking LO and going to live with him once LO is 6 weeks old. However, the trip will take about 1.5 - 2 days and I'm worried about being able to pump on an airplane.

Has anyone had an experiences with having a couple of days of infrequent pumping? How did this affect your supply?

Do you have a breast pump? Just curious as we are in Korea (husband is military) and we will be going back to the states for a visit with friends and family when Evelyn is about 3- 4 months old.

We breastfeed as well as express, however our breast pump has a battery pack option and so we are going to be taking that with us on the plane, (just incase) as sometimes I get really full and LO does not nurse for long enough to get the milk out. (Which may change by the time she is 3-4 months old) If we need to express we will just express using the nursing cover to not expose anything to the other passengers.

Our plane ride is I believe 14-16 hours?

Good Luck!

You can pump on plane discreetly using a manual pump. Infrequent pumping over a number of days hits supply hard more so the younger the baby.

Are you in UK or US? There is information on the official websites about allowance if milk and how to travel with it.

I've not done it myself but there is lots of advice on the I village exclusive pumping website. Get a pump with a battery pack, get a nursing cover. I would also tell the cabin crew and hopefully they will be supportive and maybe sit you in a seat without a neighbour.

Your issue will also be how to keep your milk fresh, maybe the crew can store the milk on the plane, it's probably easiest to pump then feed the baby with that milk and then only carry a couple of spare bottles incase.

In the terminals you should be able to find a parents room to pump in.

Good luck
