Congrats on your new arrival

Evie nursed constantly for about 12 hours when she was born!!!

It took me about 3 days to get my milk

I know so many moms who have panicked for this reason but try not to second guess your body. Remember his stomach is the size of a marble and the colostrum that you're producing, even in those tiny amounts, is exactly what he needs. My milk didn't come in until four or five days after little girl's birth. She cried a lot during that first night in hospital too, but i'm not sure it was bc of hunger. She was comforted by a swaddle and bouncing/patting and nursing even if she wasn't getting tons of milk. Just be vigilant about the latch and don't let yourself get into a situation where he's damaging your nipples. You'll make it through this night just like you made it through prenancy and labor!

He's so tired he's falling asleep so I'm not sure how great his latch is, it's just whenever he comes off he cries

I remember those days, they seem endless & the self doubt I felt was awful.
Remember breast milk is pure & easily digestible so tummy empties as soon as it fills, where as formula sits there which is why they seem to be less hungry.
it is totally normal to have a really unsettled baby, as long as you have wet & dirty nappies them that's all that matters

This is exactly what happened to me when I was in hospital just after my LO one was born. I thought I was doing something wrong then someone said to me "it's hard when she keeps feeding to get ur milk to come in". It made so much sense and made me feel better. Wish someone had told me that was normal at the start but I think midwifed etc don't want to put you off.

Good luck hun, and congrats!

My milk came in on day 5... those first few days were awful because I was also convinced that my LO wasn't getting anything! The hospital staff also told me that babies can be nauseous in the first 48 hours after birth which might also be why your LO is crying and sucking/feeding helps and is comforting as well. try not to doubt yourself, you're doing an amazing job!!

you get colostrum first. Milk in a few days but baby needs the colostrum. Keep feeding and doing skin to skin, walk baby about to. Basically glue baby to you. Alex was the same he wouldnt feed at the start at all but he did when we got home. Dont give up.

Perfectly normal but not easy to deal with. dd was latched on constantly the first few days, milk came in day 3. If babies arent feeding your body wont know to make milk.

Just grin and bear it and you will be fine. It does get better. oh and i found a little finger to suck on (very clean with clipped nails) gave my nipples a rest the first few weeks. xx
