How much ebm should an 8 week old eat?

As the title suggests, how much would she need at a feed at 8 weeks old?
OH wants to be able to give her a feed.

No matter the age -- newborn to 12 months old -- babies always take about 2-5 oz of ebm, usually 2-3. The 4-5 oz might be after a long time without eating or during a growth spurt. I would start by offering about 2 oz and maybe have another oz or two on standy in case LO wants a little more.

Do you think when using a bottle of EBM it is possible to overfeed?

Yes. Definitely. It has been well documented that, for some reason, most babies will eat more when they are fed from a bottle -- formula or ebm. If you BF a baby directly until they appear done, then offer ebm in a bottle directly after, almost all of them will drink another 1-2 oz. There is something about bottle feeding that encourages a baby to eat more than they otherwise would.

I usually had my caregivers offer my kids about 3 oz of ebm in a bottle. If they finished all of that and seemed really fussy after, they would offer another 1-2 oz. If I knew they were in a growth spurt, I would have the carer start with 4 oz and offer another 1-2 if it seemed necessary. Necessary meant they were burped and other wise tried to be distracted (with sleep or activity) and after several minutes it was clear they weren't interested in anything other than eating more.

Thanks for that. My OH is taking LO out tomorrow and a bottle. I'd prepared 2x6oz but think that's probably too much!

My 4 week old won't settle until she's had 5oz on the nights that OH does her feed!x

Break it up into 4x3oz, but have it all on standby in case LO decides 3 oz isn't quite enough for one feed.

Sometimes babies want more from a bottle. Do you have a bottle for BF babies with a super slow flow nipple? That would make a difference. Or if it is the last feed before her longest sleep, that could be why, too.

My DD1 at 8 weeks was having 3-4 oz, but DD2 was having 5oz. DD2 has been taking 6oz of EBM per feed since about 5-6 months old, but she only feeds 4-5 times a day, so I'm sure that's why she takes such large amounts. The kellymom calculator posted above has been pretty accurate for both of my girls.
