What should I wear when i start breastfeeding....?

So, this is random but I've just been looking at my clothes in a new light and realised that they'd all be quite difficult to get my boob out for breast feeding!

I need some solutions.... I always wear dresses, never jeans etc, so am looking for styles I can wear and breast feed..... I'd even consider making my own dresses if I found a good design that was both pretty and practical... all the ones I have at the moment, I'd prob have to lift the whole dress for baby to reach the boob...

Any ideas ladies? xx

Wrap over dresses are perfect, also anything that buttons up the front although you don't want too many buttons to be faffing about with. A cardigan over the top is good for modesty. And anything low cut that you can just pop your boob out of!

I just wear deep v neck singlets or scoop neck tops that are made from stretchy material so that I can just sling the neckline under my breast to BF. Cross over dresses are fantastic. If you are a seamstress that might be the best way to go so you can make it the right size for you and what you want to do.

Tbh, I tend to wear anything. I look for v neck or round cut tops or anything with a bit of stretch. I haven't bought any clothes especially for nursing, I just tend to wear my own clothes and just make them work iykwim?

Does anyone actually get dressed when they are feeding a newborn!!!
My baby is four weeks and I'm just starting to be able to get out of the house!!
I generally wear anything with buttons or stretchy...

With a newborn I just laid in bed all day feeding with just my bra on. Great for skin to skin. Ahhh I miss those newborn cuddles. I got DH to be at my beck and call, he was literally my man-servant for 2 weeks

Now I just wear whatever I want plus a vest top underneath- the top always goes up and then the vest is there so I don't show my wobbly belly obviously it doesn't work with dresses. With a dress I have to get boob out from the neckline (either has to be low or very stretchy) and then I wear a floaty scarf so I don't feel so exposed.

Thanks so much! This was my dilemma.... I literally only have dresses (don't own any jeans or trousers & have just 1 skirt) but can't pull the whole dress up and most of them are designed to keep boobs IN them, which was my aim previously having a generous cleavage, LOL. my basic daily uniform til now was a dress, cardigan and tights or leggings plus a necklace.... what can i say, I like to take the guess-work out of dressing, lol.

Also, we'll be out and about a lot and, believe it or not, 42 of our relatives are in town within the first month of baby's life! So i shall have to be fully-dressed..... plus we want to get out and enjoy the sun so breathable cotton type fabrics are a must.... so boobs will have to come out the top somehow when out and about. I can wear a wee scarf or modesty cover thing i guess....

You can prob see how I am starting to find it hard to find things! May have to try and adapt a dress design and make a couple of things just to get through summer....

It's so crazy having to choose clothes your boobs can get out of rather than stay inside!

Thanks for all the advice ladies! xx

I never wear jeans or pants for that matter either! i always pair a skirt with a nursing shirt. I also will wear vneck shirts though they are not quite as easy as a shirt made for it. Destinationmaternity.com has some cute nursing shirts, they also carry dresses. You could also make them if your handly with a sewing machine. The best shirts are the ones iwth the stretchy neckline, very quick acsess. Also be careful with your nursing bras. I find the best ones to be the sleep ones because they are also easy to manuever. Avoid the padded ones they dont stay down as easily.

I live in leggings and dresses as well so had to change my whole wardrobe for feeding as well. I ended up switching to leggings and a skirt with a nursing top if I still wanted to wear the leggings. You'll be ditching the necklaces too, baby grabs and pulls them. I got a breast feeding necklace from eBay that jingles for baby to pull and play with whole feeding
