Hi ladies my lo is 4 weeks and since she was born she will suck her hand wheather shes eaten or not! Il feed her boob for say almost an hour! ( i have an oversupply so i know shes getting enuff) shel still be suckin her hand then a midwife wud come in and be like " are u nt gonna feed her" its like i just have!!! So then il give her some more etc why is she doing this?? They say feed baby when they start showin signs but she constantly routes who ever holds her n i hate ppl thinking im nt feeding her! Shes 4 weeks and 11.4lbs so obvously i know shes eating enuf as she was 9.8lb like 2 weeks ago! So what do i do?? Is this normal? Ive never given her a dummy. She acts like shes hungry 24/*7 i feed her n shel puke everywere coz shes full!!!

Aww well you know your baby better than anyone else! Also if her weight gain is good this is a reassuring sign. Don't forget bubs go through growth spurts too and can sometimes feel like you've just finished feeding and she wants more!

Dummy's are a personal thing.... Myself I'm not keen but saying that my little man has been grizzly at times and I did consider it. Maybe giving your lo a dummy might just curb her need to suck between feeds? It sounds like she's doing fine, listen to your baby not others!!! Xxx

Some babies just like to suck. My boy is very sucky and likes to use me as a pacifier, so I introduced him to a dummy last week - I find if he's genuinely hungry he won't have a bar of it and will spit it out, but if he just wants to comfort suck, he'll quite happily suck on the dummy for ages until he falls asleep.

It has the bonus side effect of reducing the chances of SIDS too

My LO seems constantly hungry, but I think he just likes the comfort of sucking so maybe it's the same for your LO too?

RACH- thanks so much for the advice i wasnt keen on dummies but i do think i am considering it now lol i will maybe wait till she is a bit older so i can read her signs abit more as i dont wanna give her a dummy when she may be hungry xx

pixel - thanks! how did you know he was just using you as a pacifer and not growth spurt ? im still learning lol thank u!

katie- i think that could be it because sometimes i put her on the boob after screeeminggg lots!! and she sucked it once and slept! lol

My LO is like this, she feeds for about an hour then has a half hr/hour break before she's back on. Apparantly you can't over feed a BF baby. I try to distract her but if she wants fed, she WANTS fed! Lol. It's really hard going and I know sometimes she's using me as a dummy(won't take one) or to get to sleep etc but I was told this is ok.

Mine have all been like that the first couple months! Its hard isn't it? You just feel like they are bf'ing constantly and always hungry. I have over-supply even now. Luckily my daughter goes every 2 hours which is still quite often. Her feeds are 5 minutes tops though so it feels like she doesnt really nurse much. Just hang in there, it really does get better

And btw, I didnt give my 2nd a pacifier because I didnt want to. Then when she was 4 weeks I tried because I couldnt handle the constant screaming for the boob and then her screaming even more because her belly was so full but she still wanted to comfort suck. But she refused to take the pacifier. We made it through that rough patch. It just took until she was close to 3 months I believe. With my youngest I wasnt sure what I'd do pacifier wise. But she was so so unsettled for hours and hours every night, just sucking then pulling off, then sucking then pulling off and screaming. I was so dead tired I would be swaying about to fall over but she would not sleep. Every time my milk let down, which was every few minutes, I thought ''oh crap'' because she would freak even more and spit the milk out and scream because she was so full. When she was 5 weeks I gave her the gumdrop pacifier which I heard is easiest for bf babies to accept. The first few days she kinda sucked on it. Then she loved it after that and it gave me breaks when she was going through her freaky hours of the day. She still loves it now. She only usually uses it to fall asleep now. I still have over supply so she only sometimes uses me to comfort suck.
