A couple questions about engorgement and allergies...

Both unrelated to each other, but I want to know if anyone has had any experience.

1) This part is not necessarily bad, but my LO has been STTN since he was about 7 weeks old (7-10hrs/night). Well here is the not so great part...I have been getting majorly engorged every morning where half the time the pain of my boobs feeling like they are going to explode wakes me up. I did some research and didn't do much about the engorgement because I read that 'your body will adjust'. Well it hasn't adjusted, and I'm considering waking up at least once in the night to pump...but here is another issue...I pump 1 side when I first wake up, then I let LO relieve the other side. I've had to start a block feeding schedule because I've been having slight oversupply issues. I'm worried that if I pump more, that I'll run into even more of an oversupply issue. Anyone have any advice?

2) LO has been showing signs of food allergies. It started with green mucusy stools, then a tad bit of blood appeared. I then cut out dairy and nuts, and although there was no more blood, the green stools continued. So I then cut out gluten and eggs. The green stools finally went away, but they haven't been the yellow seedy stools since (it's been almost 7 weeks, now). I've seen the seedy stools MAYBE 3-4 times since the bloody stools. His 'normal' poop has now been a mucusy, slightly watery dark yellow. Anyone have a similar problem and/or similar poop color/consistency who could post up what their solution is? We are going to a gastroenterologist tomorrow, but I'm not sure how much help they could supply if this is a food problem.

I honestly have had switching to ff in the back of my mind since this problem arose...only reason I haven't done it yet is because LO is a very happy growing baby. He's just about doubled his birth weight already. lol I don't mean to sound self centered because I do wish for the best for LO but this no dairy, gluten, nuts or eggs diet is killing me! Don't get me wrong it is healthy, but I constantly have a hard time keeping interest in food. I find myself only eating a bowl of oatmeal and a salad some days just because I have a hard time finding stuff I want t eat...and I know such little calories isn't good for baby or I.

Sorry for the huge post! I've had a lot on my mind. lol

has he been getting enough hindmilk? my friend had this problem because the nurses advised her to start pumping because her baby was small. so she did and ended up with an oversupply. which might be happenning with you being engorged in the mornings. if your breasts are engorged then he might be getting full on the foremilk, the watery sugary milk that comes before the hindmilk, the high fat high calorie milk. this can surely cause green watery mucousy poops, instead of the yellow seedy poops you should be seeing. im inclined to say its not allergies purely for the fact that you have seen a few yellow poops, so i dont think hes sensitive to your milk. this is im sure rare! i would try pumping before you feed him to get rid of the foremilk (weel dont get rid of it! just store it for a later feed) and nurse him. do this for awhile to see if his poops change. if they dont then talk to a lactation consultant. there sooooo great! even better then docs in these situations, as doc would probably opt for formula right away! they will help you overcome this! goid luck and let me know if it works!:-)

Thanks so much! Great advice! I'll definitely start pumping some of the foremilk in the am...it would be great if that were the problem this whole time! It's funny you brought up a lactation consultant...I've grown to kinda enjoy breastfeeding, and I am torn with the idea of stopping soon because of food allergies. I think I'll definitely find one in this area no matter what just to know who to call for any problems.

Thank you!
