First period very heavy?

Sadly my AF returned yesterday.

It initially was quite light but today is very heavy with some small clots. Is this normal, or should I be worried and thinking about calling the doctor? I can't really remember how my first AF was last time.

no, its normal! with my first daughter i dont remember it being very bad, but i just got my cycle back two months ago and it was fierce! i was changing myself every hour, and i leaked all over myself at night! tmi, i know but necessary! maybe it being your second has something to do with it. my postpardum bleeding as well as the bleeding at birth was much heavier than my first, so i dont know why i was surprised the first period was heavy. my next one wasnt as bad, so if your second is just as bad i would go to the doc, if anything to get your iron checked. right now i would ride it out and try not to worry! if you feel dizzy and lightheaded or nauseaus, and your heart beats very fast then go to the er, but if youre feeling fine and your period is just heavy i would try not to worry!:-)

It is very normal; most women when their period comes back post-partum it is very heavy. I of course have to be weird and my periods always come back very very light and gradually get heavier but even still with each child they are progressively lighter overall than before. Good job too as before having kids my periods lasted for 2 weeks and were heavy for at least 10 days of that-its a wonder I never got anaemic! xx
