i try bfing the first 3days but he wasn't latching on(don't have the best nipples) so i got so engorged and he lost weight and i had to start expressing my breast milk because i wanted to keep bfing. so i've been expressing for 2 weeks now and it is a pain in the ass. i pump ever 2hours and get 3 ounces out of one breast and only 1ounce out the other(don't know why) but surprising today he wasn't eating out the bottle and so i tired and give him my breast and amazing he latched on with no problem and ate good. so i'm thinking i'm going back to breast feeding(so much easier)

I had an elective c section for extended breech too, and I had problems starting out. I got my supply up by: Ihad an alarm every 2 hours even at night and made myself pump, and I also pumped one side while she fed off the other. I took fenugreek as well, but the regular pumping is the main thing - don't stop pumping when it stops coming out either, try turning the pump and you might get another duct let down milk. Sometimes it really hurts to pump that often. Try and have your baby right next to you when you pump as well, as it helps. You can't skip pumping sessions though, it really has to be that often if you want to increase your supply. My supply's fine now, and I'm back to feeding directly from me. I still pump when she wakes up in the morning though, because she sttn now and my breasts are so engorged I pump while she feeds and freeze that milk. How often are you pumping? xxxx

Edit: I only answered Mrs Amillion, sorry OP.

OP: Have a look on this site it helps you work out how much expressed milk to feed by the baby's weight xxx http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/

I just express, have a read of the sticky thread 'the ins and outs of exclusively expressing'.

It is hard work and breast feeding is so much easier in the long run but in my opinion of its the only way to keep breast feeding then it's preferable.

You do have to express every 2-3 hours 24 hours a day, I always have expressed for min 20 minutes. Does get better though, I am able to express 4 times daily now and still meet my LO demands.
