Does anyone JUST express?

If so, how often do you express? and how much? (as in how many ounces and how many bottles) and how soon did you change over to bottle from breast?

Expressing is honestly the biggest hassle ever. I know some women that have exclusively expressed and you need to pump every two hours to begin with. That means every two hours for 24 hours each day.

We're still BFing and Alex has only had a bottle maybe four or five times? We still go out and I can leave him with DH without any worries

Agree with ozzie. I tried expressing and it was too much of a hassle, and you had to do it routinley.
Newborns eat alot, and my lo eats every 2 hours, smetimes less but rarely waits longer than 2 hours still unless he sleeps a straight 3 hours in the night but usually not.
When I tried pumping I usually could only get 2oz out from the pump. Pumps just couldnt get as much out as my baby could and was not enough for him. He drinks 4 ozs atleast now every 2 hours. If we go out I have to give him 2 pump sessions for 1 feeding so I could never just express.
Edit- when he was just born till week 3 he ate 2 ozs

Forgot to add, you also have to pump when they are eating. It's just a faff, to be honest.

I would hate to EBF, although I am having supply and latch issues, so we are having to top her up about 2oz 3 times a day. I wouldn't give BFing up for the world, my LO just completely relaxes the minute I put her on, even if she's screaming, nothing like a milky Mummy cuddle.

Can I ask, are you thinking of EBF?? Any particular reason?

As a side note, have you looked into fenugrek or eating oats to help with your supply?

Yup on fenugreek, although I stuggle to find a veggie cap and feel guilty at eating gelatine , I have porrrige every morning and also on Dompeidone, and still struggling.

I think it's cause I had an elective C-section, due to extented breech, and had none of the labour hormones to set things off, playing major catch up.

I do, I haven't been doing it for long and it is a lot of work.. but if it wasn't for my pump I wouldn't be BF at all. I'm not sure how long I'll keep it up, I found some really great resources online for women that are exclusively expressing and that has helped. So far I have way too much milk for LO.. she eats between 17-24 oz a day and I make about 32 oz of milk a day, so I've got quite the freezer stash going already. I pump every 3 hours right now for 15-20 min and get about 4 oz every time, except the first pump of the morning which I usually get a little more from.

I don't know how long I'll keep it up though, I really just want my body back to normal... I am thinking I will start dropping pumps very soon here. 3AM will be the first to go! I see lots of women on the exclusively expressing forums that pump 2-3 times a day and maintain a supply.

Sorry to derail the thread with an OT, lol! I had an elective c-section as well and my milk came in at 4 days PP. Are you taking enough to make you smell like maple syrup? I hear that's the trick . Also, keep feeding for as long as LO wants. Top ups trick your body into making less milk unfortunately. I hope it all works out

I don't honestly know what the issue with the supply is, I just assumed it was the C-section I have been taking enough Fenugreek to make me smell, it's really off putting lol. I also pump when I can but thats hard in the day with the baby.

Last night I fed Tessa off both boobs then, gave her a 2 oz top up, and for about 3 hours after all she did was bring up milk, mouthfuls of the stuff. She was happy with it though, smiling the whole time, lol little weirdo!
