the dr. just offered me NO help!!!

my baby is 14 weeks old and exclusively bf, i've had clogged milk ducts before and know what they are like, this isnt it. (at least i'm pretty sure!) a few days ago i started having pain when she latches just like the early days. maybe not quite AS painful but still, very uncomfortable. then yesterday morning in the shower i noticed a clear blister on my left nipple that turned white after feeding lo on it. looked it up, milk blister, no big deal.

but by the end of the day yesterday, the underside of both breasts were very sore and by this morning it was even worse. very sore trying to hold lo against them to burp her, etc. my breasts are not hard like when there is a clogged duct and the milk builds up. worried maybe it's thrush that spread to the ducts but i dont have any visible symptoms.

went to the dr this morning and he clearly had NO idea, just kind of said ummm so it doesnt look infected, soo i really dont know, just keep feeding her and call if it gets worse.

REALLY?! thanks for nothing! anyone ever have this? TIA.

Poor you that dosent sound very good.
Two things i would try,

Have you tried varying your nursing position on the problematic side? If this is a persistent blister, changing the nursing position might stop the friction that is causing the blister to form?
1. Monitor yourself for thrush symptoms (burning pain, itching, skin that appears dry, flaky, or shiny, nipples that appear more pink or red than normal) and the baby for thrush symptoms (white, pearly patches in the mouth) while taking in increased hygienic precautions (wash all clothes and towels on hot, change bras daily), reducing yeast-promoting foods in your diet (simple starches and sugars), and taking a good probiotic supplement.
2. LOT & LOTS of Lansinoh cream, magic stuff!.

Hope your back to pain free BF soon
x

I'd do what the PP said, and in addition I would get yourself some Acidophilus form a health food shop. It can help you get rid of thrush if you have it, and guard against you getting it if you don't

I have had mastitis so many freakn times it isn't funny and on some occasions it does just start with ridiculously sore breasts that are so painful that I can't even hold DS anywhere near them. i find these ones are the plain 'infected' type, its just that there is bacteria in there somewhere. The lumpy ones I can normally feed through if the lumps come up first. The painful ones I can only get through by taking anti biotics. Like I said, I have had it so many times now I ALWAYS have a prescription on hand to fill!!

Keep an eye out for thrush or mastitis.
