What's the longest your ebf baby has gone without pooing? More than 9 days???!!!

....And how old were they?

I ask because my DS is 5 months old, still ebf, and we are now on the 9th day since he last pooed. I know babies can go a few days between bowel movements, but is it normal to be this long?!!! There is still no sign of it and he has just gone to sleep for the night, so by tomorrow it will be the 10th day!!! Seriously thinking about calling my HV for advice!

My understanding is bf babies don't get constipated. I have just finished a 10 day course of antibiotics and the last 2 poos he did were a bit weird (I posted about this on an earlier thread). Maybe this could explain the strange poo then lack of them. Otherwise LO is feeding well and the last 2/3 weeks been really settled and happy generally

Probably worth a word with the HV, but if it helps DD went about 8 days when she was small and we were recommended to give her VERY dilute orange juice in water - I think the sugar kick starts things! She hated it, but loved prune juice, suppose it's less tart. About 1 part juice to 7 or 8 parts water.

My DD often goes for a week or so. I don't worry unless I can see her actually straining to go. I don't think she's ever gone for 10 days though, it might be worth having a word with your HV.

My eldest went 21 days on two occasions, absolutely not a problem. Dr sears saw a baby who went a month apparently! Xx

My had a phase of not going very often, can't say I counted the days though, bm is so tailored to their needs there is very little waste and usually the advice from doctors and hv is give water or juice which in most cases wouldn't be necessary. Constipation is extremely rare in bf babies.
X
