Advice for BF larger baby

Hi ladies. My lb is 4 months old and ever since his growth spurt at 12wks he's been waking during the night for extra feeds when he used to sleep through. My MIL suggested rusks or baby rice with last feed but he still wakes for feeds. I weighed him 2 days ago and he is 21lb so a big boy (he was 8lb 9oz when born). Im really suffering with the lack of sleep and was wondering if you had any advice for me. During the day he feeds every 2 hours. Im wondering whether cluster feeding before bed will help? Any advice would be great thanks.

Cluster feeding always helped my lo sleep longer, you could always try a dream feed before you go to bed too. We have had odd times where lo has gone from sttn to waking several times. Normally passes pretty quickly, 4 months is famous for babies waking more often and this is usually taken as a sign that they are ready for solid foods but I don't think its the case with most.
Hope its a growth spurt and passes soon, i'm a big fan of Co sleeping during these periods.
X

His last feed is in bed with him. He will feed on each breast and fall asleep and is then tranfered to his cot. That has been his routine since day 1. Im reluctant to go with solids as he is a big baby and dont want him getting fat. He used to cluster feed in the early weeks but grew out of it if I was to cluster feed now it wouldnt be supply and demand which is how I feed him now.

I think follow your baby's lead. Mine rarely clusters except during growth spurts. If I offered at any other time rather than when she asks for it she gets in a right hump.

4 months growth spurt coupled with sleep regression was soooo tough for us. She went from sttn 9pm to 7am to waking every hour and half! It went on for around a month and a bit. The past twoish weeks she has been more settled and been going 4-6 hrs between feeds at night again.

Solids wont necessarily make your LO sleep any more than he currently is. HVs always seem to suggest it as if its some magic solution  Hang in there, hope it passes soon for you!

I feel your pain. I have a big boy too and since just before 4 months he has modelled the exact same behaviour as your LO. Its killer. I am glad that other people on here say that it passes, as at 5.5 months we are still doing his schedule. DS is cluster feeding in the evenings though. So effectively I have a 20lb newborn!! Ha ha

DS's doc said to start some baby rice. I am not recommending this for you as your LO is a lot younger than mine, but just so you know, it doesn't help. He only gets 2 baby teaspoons of cereal at the mo, which is like 90%EBM with 10% cereal. He still wakes 4 times a night.

I have just resumed having naps as many times as I can during the day like I did when he was newborn. I am sahm so this is fine for me. Although yesterday I did a marathon effort from 5am til 10pm without sleep because DS didn't either!!! Sigh

Weight has nothing to do with being ready to wean. Solids won't help him sleep. Your milk is more nutritious than pretty much any solids you may offer.

PK4, I have a 20 lb 4 month old, Elijah, so I can definitely understand. I think, perhaps, it may be just be each babies own behavior, regardless, and something he may outgrow. My son used to eat every two hours until about 3 months, and then he stopped and eats every 3-4 hours, but that was his own schedule. My daughter and eldest son were both different, too. My daughter came out only eating every few hours and STTN at around 2 months.

Elijah still wakes once or twice in the night to eat. He doesn't cluster feed either anymore.

*HUGS* I hope it passes soon for you, but know it will. My doctor gave him the okay to eat rice cereal, but I haven't tried it yet. You can definitely talk to your doctor about starting it, for sure.

Exactly this, LO seems to be on some massive growth spurt/sleep regression marathon! We went from 1 feed at 4am up to around 10/11 weeks then 2 feeds a night and now to feeding 3 or 4 times a night with other wake ups thrown in for good measure. I'm knackered!
