My DS has done the poo that doesn't stop. Took over 3 nappies to finally get him off the change table and even then, that was covered in poop too!! It just kept going and going and going, I didn't think it would stop!!

The gassy tummy and green poop is generally a sign of fore/hind milk imbalance. If it is this, then it can be cleared up pretty quick by making sure the breast is fully emptied before offering the other breast. If the breast is not finished then at the next feed you should start with that one before moving to the next. Treat each feed as a chance to sit down for an hour, that way you will be ready to sit there for however long and be relaxed about it.

Your breast should feel quite like a water balloon when you start, full and round and a little firm to the touch. When the breast is empty, it will be flatter and not feel like its full of water, but a bit more fleshy feeling and kinda squishy (think more like firm gelatine to squeeze).

Can you feel your let downs? You will likely have 2 or 3 per breast per feed. If you can feel them, wait for the second one and then let your LO keep nursing until he naturally unlatches. Then after 10 mins or so offer the other breast. Its ok if he doesn't take it, but its nice to offer it just in case because not all babies indicate the need for the second breast.

green poo can also indicate a food intolerance.........green and mucousy.
Usually the first thing to eliminate is dairy

Gassy can also be due to something you ate.....usually broccoli or beans

and or hindmilk/foremilk

Thats true about the dairy intolerance but it is usually accompanied by other symptoms. The most obvious one here, and easiest to check for, would be fore/hind milk imbalance. You will notice a change within a matter of days especially with the gas and settling.

If you think it is dairy intolerance then I would recommend you consult a doctor before eliminating stuff from your diet.

Is your LO unlatching because he is sleepy or full or bored do you think? you don't need to do the whole feed in a constant row, so don't be afraid to wait for 10 or 15 mins for LO to wake up better (changing nappy is good for doing this) and then offer again. Some article I was referred to on this site said its a bit like saying no to dessert straight after dinner because you are full, but after a bit you kinda go, actually I could go a small amount of dessert.

Feeding is hard work at that age and he may be getting tired feeding until his muscles get a bit stronger and mouth a bit bigger!!

spinach and brocolli can turn their poo green as well. Oh and for iron, treacle or even better blackstrap molasses is a really good source of it, as dried apricots. Not all iron-rich foods are fart inducing xx
