another green poo thread!

i know that it's probably fore/hindmilk imbalance, i just want your opinion on how to to sort it out. i know i should let LO empty the breast before offering the second, but bare with me:
- right breast is small, never feels too full and really hurts while feeding (mostly at the end of the feed)
- left breast is bigger, always fuller and hurts less while feeding

so say that i start on the right. it gets almost empty very quickly (5-10min) and starts to hurt, so i swap to the left one. LO has another 10-15min and then he's done. next feed i start on the left (the fuller one) and (usually) LO is done after 15-20min.

i was thinking the imbalance was caused by LO not emptying the right breast (as i take him off and swap) but now i am not too sure? is he taking too much fore milk from the left one?

also, i'm totally lopsided, can i fix it somehow?

thanks for reading!

Are you sure the pain is not simply a let-down in which case you need to keep your LO on that breast...
The 'feeling' of the breast is not always related to its ability to produce or 'stock' milk so dont go by that I would say. Wait for LO to slow down considerably/unlatch before swapping maybe.

oh, no, it's proper pain - my nipple comes out all squashed and a bit blanched. we had/have lots of latching issues due to LO being TT

If it comes out blanched, it could be this... http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/moth...ple-blanching/

I don't have any experience in it though. If you can tolerate the pain, put your lo back on the first breast after he's fed from the second so he is getting the fattier milk.

Aside from the green poos, is everything otherwise OK? Weight gain (allowing for the tongue tie), not too much colic etc? If it is, then you don't need to worry about the poos being green at all.

If you have other problems like gassiness, then your LO could be taking in a lot of air due to the latch problems and this should resolve once the TT is sorted.

this is what i'm trying to do now, but because the flow is slower in comparison with the second breast, LO gets very frustrated and pulls off

pulling and tugging could help get the flow faster (get the let down) so if you can bear it let him do that a little bit...

colic is not too bad, but he's got wind,he still takes quite a bit of air, even though the TT was sorted a while ago (he also has a high palate which affects his latch).
re weight gain: he dropeed from the 50th percentile to the 25th (prob due to a dip in my supply), but went back up again. he's weighted again next week - we'll see.

My milk seems to make green poo generally lol!

My son had yellow-green poo for about a month, then it went green and never went back. He was very colicky so I thought it was the colic, allergies (though he did have an allergy, but stopping it didn't sort it out), foremilk/hind milk imbalance, etc etc etc . I tried everything but the poo stayed green until he started weaning at 7 months. My daughter has no colic, no allergies, but at a month her poo went green and never went back. She is happy and healthy so I'm just not worrying about it. Every once and a while her poo shocks me by being yellow and seedy like they say in the books, but it isn't the norm.

Both mine have fed quickly (under 10min) and start with one boob - empty it - then drink anything from 1/4 to the entire 2nd boob. Hope this helps! x
