Please don't worry hun - I was a nervous wreck when I started breastfeeding, but it can be done so discreetly (I wear 2 vest tops and pull one up/pull one down so as not to reveal too much flesh. Or scarves are great too for covering up!)

Most places have feeding rooms or even just using a normal changing room. I as of yet *touch wood* Have not had a negative reaction, in fact if I catch people looking I just smile and they smile back!

I do now normally feed in feeding rooms, but only because Sophie is WAY too distracted to actually feed in public!

There's been a lot of great advice already offered, so I just have a couple things to add. You mentioned this will be your second child, so depending on how old your first is, you might need to occupy him/her while you are out and trying to nurse. My oldest wasn't quite two years old when my second arrived, so I couldn't rely on her behaving well when out. I often found it easier to just go to the car to nurse if necessary since I could safely entertain my first in a secure environment as I nursed. I also ended up nursing the second in my ErgoBaby carrier as well. I often did this at activities with my first, so it didn't seem so strange to have an infant nursing while standing and talking to other mothers.

I haven't gotten any negative comments where I live (southern California, but then most people are pro-bf here), but did get one once in Florida by an old bat. I was nursing in a locker room at a private club (where lots of naked women were walking around) and she muttered "disgusting" to me and then tried to get me kicked out! She didn't even have the dignity to say it to my face, since I wasn't even sure she had said "disgusting" until I learned she had complained about me! It was one of those times when I thought I heard it, but it wasn't loud and clear enough for me to confront her right then, so I just dismissed it. But this was the only time it happened. I think it is a generational thing. A lot of women in their late 60's and older didn't nurse here and I guess some think it's a sexual thing.

Most people don't say anything, but I have gotten a few positive comments as well!

SOrry yeh - I've had no whispers, cOmplaints, tits or rude looks whatsoever. As another pp says probably because they don't realise due to wearing a scarf and cradling LO.

I've had one older woman say to me : they have tO let you nowadays don't they...

Which I wasn't sure whether that was a positive or negative comment and again was about 60...

Oddly though when I met a few other Bfing mothers for coffee one time in an m&s cafe there were a few old ladies but more like 80 (yes 80) and they came over to talk to us and saud how lovely it was to see nursing mothers and cooed over our little ones. She said tO us I'm 85 and it's such a delight to see little babies being cared for...

I take it 80s plus women had to bf as they had lived through the war etc...

Not once has anyone said anything, nor have I ever had any strange looks.

In fact, I am slim, tiny boobs, and you would probably just think I am cradling LO so I would be surprised if anyone actually noticed!

I've nursed Alice in public all the way through (she's 2 and a half now,) and never had a bad word (unless you count when another breastfeeding mum in a feeding room told me she'd never want to end up with a child nursing as long as mine, which seemed a little unnecessary.) I think if you're confident in what you're doing, people will generally mind their own business. I should say I've had many positive comments and lots of smiles from people too.

Yup, I'll add to the chorus of never had any problems. Most people don't even notice, even though I don't use any cover; LO's head covers my breast and his body and my supporting arm cover my tummy.

You do get used to it. I don't even cover up now, LO won't feed with something over his head. I just try to go to a more secluded place.

No one ever says anything

With my first I used a special cover, but with my second baby I'll breastfeed absolutely anywhere but I always do the two top trick and latch him on as quick as I can...

Never ever had a comment and as for looks.... I'm honestly too busy feedin lo and could give a flying toss ! Lol
