I've always eaten lots of garlic and never had a problem. Did you eat in in pregnancy? If so, he'll have tasted it in the amniotic fluid, so it'll probably be familiar!

I eat a ridiculous amount of garlic and don't have any problems... I actually don't avoid any foods because of BFing so he gets a taste of everything!

I eat loads of garlic too, bear in mind a lot of 'information' regarding what you can and cannot eat while BF has been put out there by formula companies both in the past and right up to the present day, making BF and eating what you like seem to be two incompatible things is a great marketing strategy. xx

The only thing I limit food-wise because of BFing is alcohol. I still eat garlic, onions (by the bucketload lol), curry, all vegetables, everything. I can't imagine any normal baby being put off by a little added flavour. As Tacey says, your LO will have tasted it during your pregnancy anyway.

Ive actually read that garlic makes the milk taste good to babies. I love garlic and onions so I ate tons of them while pregnant so she would get used to the taste.

It's true, if you go to all the main formula companies websites they all have 'breastfeeding help' which on the surface seems fine but looking into it further and reading the articles more closely the message is there is a very narrow, defined 'proper' way to BF and this includes eating a certain diet, taking supplements etc, on the formula companies websites for health care professionals, it's even worse as they often have medical studies proving these 'facts' (but when looked into these studies often say in the small print they were funded and conducted by cow and gate/aptamil/hipp/smas own research wings), and they are urged to give this important information to their patients. These sites have now gone into lockdown to hide their activities probably because they were exposed by several parenting blogs, but the HIPP one has not very good security and I managed to join it without any checks, certainly eye opening I have to say. In the US it's even worse, the formula companies also manufacture the vitamin supplements for BF mums and babies and the 'info' they put out there regarding what mums can a d cannot eat while BF is a lot more restrictive and often a lot better disguised with regard to it coming from them xx

I read that eating a clove or two of garlic a day helps with milk production.

i suppose if you sat and ate a ton of garlic then LO probably wouldn't like the taste of the breastmilk but then again most people don't like to drink liquid garlic. But I think you would have to eat an awful lot of it to turn your LO off.
