Urgent question for a first timer

I had my baby girl yesterday and literally she won't come off my boob. I mean I'll feed her and then half hour or an hour later she is back on for 30 mins at least. Is she not getting enough (I know milk not come in yet) what can I do??? I feel useless and my boobs are getting so sore?!?!?!

Please help!! X

Its normal relax! her stomach is the size of a marble right now so she certainly doesnt need much, the colustrum you are producing now contains everything she needs! your milk will come in due to her stimulating you by sucking constantly. Make sure you have a nice latch each time, more boob under the nipple than above in the mouth, and try to encourage her to gently pop off when he falls asleep by putting your finger in the corner of her mouth. After a few days your milk will be flowing and she will have plenty to drink! x

Yep agree with above poster. Your milk will come in all the quicker for all the sucking she is doing. Keep it up you're doing a great job.

Have you got some Lansinoh that you can start putting on your nips after each feed?

Right ok so basically I just need to let her feed every time she crys and shows signs of wanting a feed? She always falls asleep during a feed then when she comes off screams again until I put boob in her mouth. I'm getting tempted to just give her a bottle!

Thank you ladies x

Yep, you need to feed on demand and for a newborn that's a lot! She's simply boosting you milk supply (she's got a lot of growing to do) and suckling hard to get all that amazing colostrum

It's tough in the first few weeks but gets better, I wouldn't give up so easily. The benefits of breastfeeding completely out weigh any that giving a bottle could ever give a baby. FF babies get sick far more frequently so then you'd be up looking after a sick baby 24/7 rather than feeding a healthy one...think of it that way

The very best thing you can do is feed feed feed. It doesn't last and does get easier.
The soreness goes too. Lanisoh and airing your breasts will help.
Hang in there, you're doing brilliantly.

They are like that at first! She is getting all your colostrum right now which is soooo good for her! Your milk will come in in the next few days and her feeding schedule might change after that. My daughter started eating every 1-2h once my milk came in, then less frequently as she grew.

I second getting the Lansinoh - it saved my life with my first.

Have you tried trying to keep her awake a bit longer whilst she is feeding. A few tricks are tickling feet, get them naked, blowing gently on their face, circling your thumb in their palm, stroking their cheek etc If you can keep her awake a bit longer you may get a bit longer between feeds.

Switching to formula is not the magic solution it is made out to be, your baby will still have a tiny tummy that can only accomodate a small amount of milk that will need filling frequently whether that be with wonderful colostrum or formula.

Also your baby has just entered this very strange world and will be getting so much comfort from feeding from you and falling alseep doing it

I agree with the above posters; also your baby 'asking' to be fed frequently is a sign of a healthy, alert baby who is getting enough-a baby who was not getting enough would be lethargic and not demanding feeds. It is hard at first but well worth it! Lansinoh is safe to 'wear' during feeds as well so slather loads of it on whenever you get the opportunity! xx

My son had feeding issues at first that caused him to not be able to eat enough which caused low blood sugar and it was very difficult to rouse and feed him. My daughter on the other hand has always been a great eater and has always been very demanding on the boob lol.
