Hi al hoping someone can helpas Im all in a tizz and dont know what to do
I have hada sickness bug since Monday night and have only had water to drink al week as any food would just come back up, DS has been EBF since birth with the odd bottle of formula (always hit and miss).
Anyway, i Have still been BFeeding this week and he has fed fine, but I phyisically couldnt from 6pm Friday until Sat lunchtime. Now my supply has just dropped completely, I can squeeze a little out but DS will just cry and struggle whilst feeding. I have tried all day and he just keeps crying so I gave in and tried to give formula but he just starts choking and refuses to take the bottle!! So now I dont know what to do! I ve tried numerous times over the past few hours and he may take a few gulps from bottle then a little from me then the crying starts again!!
I dont want to give up BFeeding but he wont take bottle either??
Any advice would be great
-I ve also started eating today and drinking lots too but it doesnt seem to have done anything
Eat lots and lots of oats, they are great for boosting supply. You could also try fenugreek capsules, which boosted my supply initially the first time I took them (personally found them hit and miss after the first time but some people have great success).
Also carry on drinking lots and try taking your LO to bed and have lots of skin to skin contact and encourage him to nurse as much as possible, if he is absolutely starving maybe try some formula from a cup if he is refusing a bottle to take the edge off his hunger then put him back on your breast. Don't worry this is totally fixable
Also if you can try using a feeding tube instead of a bottle. Then LO will be on the breast which will help your supply and he will be getting something for his sucking. Use the tube on round 3 ex....feed on right till he gets upset, then feed on left till he gets upset then put him back on the right and use the tube. That will help to build up your supply. As the more you can get him on without the extra the better. And by using it on the 3rd time he shouldn't get too upset that he rejects trying the breast.
