Night feeds 7mths +

LO is 7mths now and, apart from when teething badly or on a growth spurt, he wakes usually once sometimes twice per night. He's always been a quick feeder, taking less than 5mins on one boob generally. He then goes back down and to sleep 99% of the time

So, last night he slept 7pm til 3am when he woke crying. I stumbled into his room, plonked him on the boob and he fed quickly and took a lot (I have very fast and strong letdown). I then burped him and he unusually spit some up. He the. Wouldn't go back down so I went to feed him again and he promptly threw the whole first feed up all over me and the bed this is very unusual and only the second time he's brought a feed up - was it that he didn't need it??

My question: how do I know when he is waking for reasons other than hunger? Tonight I thought I'd try rocking/shushing first? At what age are there tummies generally large enough to get them through the night? Im not overly bothered about him STTN, one wake up is pretty good IMO, but I don't want to offer boob if he doesn't need it - and chucks it back up!

My only experience was with babies that absolutely still needed fed at night at your baby's age. My DS didn't fully night wean until 10 months. My DD still isn't fully night weaned and is a few days short of 20 months.

Not sure of correct answer but my lo wakes up 2/3 times still at nearly 9 months and wants a feed each time. I've tried just patting and comforting her back to sleep but she wants milk. Sometimes I hear her tum rumble!!!

Hello hon (yes it's me finally took your recommendation!)
Will has just started STTN. (Although we wake him to feed him when we go to bed - 10.30-11ish.) Prior to this, when he woke in the night, he needed to be fed, he was ravenous, nothing else worked. And then, when he was ready, and he stopped being hungry, he stopped waking up. This is probably what J will do too? We introduced a second meal per day, at tea time, which has filled Will up. How's BLW going? Xxx

Helloooo! STTN?! Wow, that's brilliant! J slept through last night - after finally buying a room thermometer we discovered it was dropping to 15 degrees overnight in his room so we've now put the heating on timer for an hour overnight and that may have helped.....

BLW is going great thanks he's eating a lot more and seems to actually want solids too. Must catch up soon, sounds like things are going good for you guys? Xxxx

Yep, not bad thanks Will's being lovely anyway. Doing a bit of a combo of TW and BLW and both are going well - he LOVES food! And actually got permission from the HV today to give him food as he's a chunky monkey She need never know we've been doing it for a few weeks! And the sleeping has been cool, has been a week now but I don't like the effects on my reproductive system!

My DS only started STTN once he was on 3 full meals a day, up until then he was still feeding atleast twice a night (sometimes 3-4times!) I guess he was a hungry monkey but now he milk feeds at 7am, 11, 3 and 6.30ish in bed by 7 ish and sleeps through til 6.30-7am again without any more feeds. It was an awful shock the first time he went that long without feeding. I was awake most of the night with sore boobs and worrying about him!
